Meantime Brewing Company Introduces Yakima Red

Meantime Brewing, the Greenwich-based craft brewer, has launched its latest limited edition beer: Yakima Red. This brew is the latest addition to the Meantime range and fuses US and European flavours.

Yakima Red will be available on draught until the end of April. The new brew, made in London at Meantime’s Greenwich brewery, will be available at selected pubs across the UK (including Meantime-owned outlets The Old Brewery and the Greenwich Union).

As part of Meantime’s commitment to using the latest brewing technology to create thoroughly modern takes on traditional beer styles: as such, this new brew is a true blend of European malts and American hops.

Yakima Red uses five hops from the Yakima Valley, Washington State, brewed together with rich-flavoured UK ale and crystal malt with a touch of German caramel malt, to give it the deep ruby-red colour and medium-to-full-bodied complexion.  The beer has bags of character with a fruity citrus edge (grapefruit and clementine) combined with tropical fruit notes, but with restrained bitterness.

Meantime Brewing would recommend Meantime Yakima Red as a wonderful match for veal, crispy roast pork, ham hock terrine or charcuterie.

Steve Schmitt, head brewer at Meantime said: “Having fallen in love 20 years ago with the unique flowery and fruity aromas the hop varieties from the Yakima Valley bring to beer, the Meantime team felt it was the right time to brew a beer to show off these North American gems.  We felt the best way to do so was to bring the hops together with a solid, ruby red-base beer made from the best malt Europe can offer.“
