The main beneficiaries from the three-day celebration of the best in beer, food and music will be Stonehaven Sea Cadets, the town’s famous Fireballs Ceremony, plus the Friends of Kincardine Community Hospital. The Happening, which will run from Thursday, June 12, to Saturday, June 14, attracting 6,000 visitors, will also support good causes like Stonehaven RNLI, Girl Guides Stonehaven, the town’s Scouts, and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, plus many others. Robert Lindsay, the festival’s manager, said everyone involved in the event was proud to once again be giving a boost to so many organisations who make such a huge difference to so many lives in and around Stonehaven. “The Midsummer Beer Happening is all about creating a unique and special atmosphere over three days that will leave people with great memories. But we also want the Happening to leave a legacy for Stonehaven. “I can think of no better way to do that than by supporting those groups and organisations who just make life better for everyone – be it giving young folk the best start in life or helping people enjoy their golden years. “They all do it for love of place and people and our community is so much richer for having them do what they do. We are so proud to be able to use the Happening as a springboard to say thanks to them and support their wonderful work.” The Fireballs Ceremony is a world-famous event that attracts thousands to Stonehaven every Hogmanay and puts the town on the global map. Run by volunteers, they depend on donations to ensure the event can happen at the Bells every years. Stonehaven Sea Cadets gives young people skills and experience that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives, while forging lifelong friendships at the same time. Friends of Kincardine Community Hospital have a project to buy special chairs which convert to beds to allow family of patients to stay in the ward, especially in end-of-life situations. The Midsummer Beer Happening is a not-for-profit event run entirely by volunteers, and has supported charities and causes every year since it first started as the Stonehaven Real Ale Festival in the Town Hall some 16 years ago. Robert said: “Since we first opened as the Stonehaven Real Ale Festival through to last year’s Midsummer Beer Happening, the event has raised £375,000 – all of which goes back into the community. “We couldn’t do that without the help and support of the visitors who flock to the festival year after years, regularly seeing 6,000 people coming through our marquee over the three days of the festival. “We never take that for granted and always do our best to give them the best time possible – while knowing they are also doing good for others.” This year will see more than 120 beers on offer from the best of Scottish breweries, plus two from Belgium. It will also see the return of the popular al fresco food court and a rich music strand with the cream of north-east talent, plus its iconic cycling Sportive. Robert said organisers are now in the countdown to opening the Happening after planning for months – almost as soon as last year’s was over. “Everyone involved in making the Happening happen is a volunteer and there truly is an army of them. I can’t thank them enough for giving their time, energy and passion to making this one of the best events in the north-east’s cultural calendar,” he said. “I would also like to thank our sponsors for this year. They are Claxton Engineering, Simpsons Malt, Whittakers, EnerQuip, The Bay Fish and Chips, Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace, NFU Mutual, Macphie and Deeside Timberframe. “There are less than five weeks until the Midsummer Beer Happening bursts into life and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back for three days of beer, food, music and fun – and if we are really lucky, a bit of summer sunshine. “We are all looking forward to seeing you there – cheers.” For more information and tickets go to msbh.co.uk
