New brew from Navigation Brewery

Nottingham’s Navigation Brewery are taking their commitment to using the best quality British ingredients to the next level with a one off experimental brew this September.

Living in a hop growing country provides our brewers with a wonderful opportunity when the hop harvest rolls around in September. Going to the hop gardens is an integral part of our hop selection for 2020. The brewers will be down there to gain vital information on this year’s hop crops. Plus we can have fresh, un-dried hops straight from the farm added to the mash!

Our brewers will be heading to the Charles Faram Hop Walk on the 5th September to pick their own hops straight from the bines. This is the first time fresh green hops have been used at Navigation Brewery.

Our aim is to introduce fresh, crisp, sappy characteristics to our beautifully mellow core ale, Patriot. The original recipe creates a smooth balance between British hops and the finest Maris Otter malt.

Bringing the hops back to Nottingham and starting the brewing process on the same day, we’ll be adding 80kg of fresh hops to the standard recipe. The ABV will also increase from 3.8% to 4.2%, making Patriot a Best Bitter for the first time.

 The Brewery

With a brewhouse in the old stable block of the Trent Navigation Inn, Navigation Brewery first mashed in back in April 2012. The inn dates back to around 1842 and was used by people & horses transporting coal, iron & foodstuffs on the canal network.

The brewery team deploy traditional methods in a modern environment to produce their award winning range. The brewery was designed and fabricated in the UK. They now produce a wide range of seasonal cask and keg beers, bottles and cans.

Navigation Brewery use the best quality ingredients – fresh full cone hops in the copper, the fines quality British Maris Otter as a base malt and their own fruit driven strain of yeast. They customise their water depending on the style of beer they wish to produce. All beers are brewed & conditioned on-site and casks are fined to order to ensure maximum freshness.

As well as offering keg, cask and contract brewing to the industry, brewery tours are available to the public who want to get an insight into the brewing process – and have a taste of course!
