Online Training | Advanced Beer Photography with Matthew Curtis

Thursday, October 29,  2020

6 – 8pm

Online via Zoom

£20.95 pp

Learn from award-winning writer and photographer Matthew Curtis how to improve your editorial on breweries, pubs and beer itself through the use of bold, striking imagery.

They say a picture says 1000 words, and in photojournalism that could never be truer. Through his photography for publications such as Good Beer Hunting, Ferment, BEER and his own magazine Pellicle, writer and photographer Matthew Curtis has brought his stories to life by combining them with imagery that encapsulates the spirit and sense of place his subject conveys. He received a gold award for his photography for Good Beer Hunting from the North American Guild of Beer Writers in 2018, and has worked with several professional clients including: The Five Points Brewing Company, RedWillow Brewery, Unity Brewing and St. Austell Brewery.

In this 90 minute session (plus 30 minute Q&A) Matthew will take course attendees through his process, from how he approaches a shoot and adapts to the challenging conditions they can present, to the equipment he takes with him, how he works through the arduous image selection process, and how he meticulously edits his images to bring their subjects to life.

Although beginners are most welcome, this course is aimed at intermediate to advanced photographers, and it’s recommended you have a little bit of experience before attending. It will not cover the use of smartphones. A key objective of the course is to improve beer photography specifically for editorial, with the focus on shooting on location and how to get the best out of that shoot in post-production.

The course will be limited to 10 attendees to keep things interactive, and participants will have the opportunity to submit their questions to Matthew prior to the course taking place.
