Hayle based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Angus Trott, known by his artist name “TheWave Machine”, and Truro based brewer Mike Mason, the founder of Mason Brewing Co collaborate to bring a very special pint to the county.Angus, The Wave Machine, regularly entertains audiences across Cornwall with his surf and sea inspired songs which he performers as a looper, layering up instrumentation and vocals.
The Wave Machine also enjoys a significant global audience with many of his songs featured on surf inspired Spotify playlists. One particular song“Ocean’s Brew” has just hit over one million global streams.Established by Mike Mason, the former Head Brewer at The Driftwood Spars in St Agnes and Brewhouse andKitchen in Lichfield, our goal is to revive the public’s appreciation for classic British beers while highlighting modern pale ales, stouts, and various other styles. Nestled in the lively Three milestone Industrial Estate, Mason Brewing Co features a welcoming and spacious taproom where visitors can savour a wide selection of beers in a vibrant atmosphere.
Recently, after The Wave Machine blew the audience away with a performance at one of the Brewery’s Tap Room Sessions,Mike and Angus got talking about a collaboration to create a commemorative “Ocean’s Brew” beer to celebrate his track of the same name.
“It’s been fantastic to see the reaction to my music across the globe this past couple of years, and “Ocean’s Brew” has been leading the charge on streams. My music is inspired by all things of the ocean, it’s a chilled out surf vibe, and I feel it is best enjoyed with a cold beer in your hand. I was therefore stoked to meet Mike and collaborate on this exciting project to bring “Ocean’s Brew” not only to your ears but to your taste buds as well” says Angus.
Mike says “Collaborating with local artist, Angus, to bring anew, yet classic beer, to a Cornish audience is brilliant. We wanted the beer to give a nod to the ocean and the song and it’s inspired me to use my creativity as a brewer to produce “Ocean’s Brew”. It’s a hazy Pale Ale with notes of sea salt and Lime, the perfect accompaniment to listening to Angus’ music”.
Ocean’s Brew (The Track), launched in the summer of 2020, has garnered a million streams on Spotify. The track found its way onto numerous surf playlists and provided the perfect backdrop for summer beach gatherings. Drawing influence from musicians like Jack Johnson, Dispatch, and Donovan Frankenreiter, Ocean’s Brew was recorded at Brighton’s renowned’Brighton Electric’ studio, serving as a ray of positivity during the somewhat gloomy post-lockdown period.
