Head Brewer Derek Bates says: “Oktoberfest is the Bavarian celebration of Harvest and with a new farmhouse brewery finally here and lagers being some of my favourite beers to drink I have a lot to celebrate. We’ve brewed 3 lagers for the event along with 2 beers that really celebrate the fields and the crops that are grown right here on Abbey Farm”
Bates continues “We have a lot to celebrate this harvest, new staff, loyal customers and a kit expansion and I would to like to raise a special glass to British farmers and our very own Crisp Matings. Seeing next years barley come off the fields this year felt extra poignant after so much time apart and it’s time to celebrate togetherness and brewings agricultural connection”.
Co-Founder Miranda Hudson remarks “We have so much respect for German beers, our brewhouse was made in Bavaria where time-honoured traditions and innovations have honed and preserved a beer category that we often overlook as craft brewers. Lagers are crisp, clean, and delicious but they are also just so varied. It’s time to look again at lager and rediscover a style tragically commodified by macro brewers”.
Miranda continues “Oktoberfest also gives us the opportunity to mark the seasons change – our alfresco Tap Days launched in April 2021 will head inside and shorten to Tap Nights 4-8pm every Friday and Saturday over in the barrel store”
Ben Haynes Head of Sales adds “We are thankful we have such great friends in both our brewing community and our local community. Both came together for us as a new busines when the pubs and on trade closed for much of 2020. A local grant meant we could build an alfresco taproom along with building a special event bar for festivals. The bar is beautifully made with local sustainably grown chestnut and will be pouring an impressive line up of 6 beers brewed to mark Oktoberfest and launch Tap Nights. You can’t really get much more farm to glass then at a Harvest Festival on a farm in a Bavarian brewery can you?! And beer enjoyed at source, where it’s been made – it just tastes better in my opinion!”
