Pandemic Pandemonium, Or Maybe Not

Wednesday, June 16th 2021

6:30 – 7:30 pm BST

Online via Zoom

Just as the world of brewing was starting to get seriously interesting, with small players growing larger, already large players absorbing minnows to grow even bigger, and the global beer giants at a crossroads with their traditional flagship brands underperforming en masse, along came a tiny disruptor that took all of us by surprise.

As stories abound of brewers of all sizes suffering catastrophic losses, or enjoying unlikely successes, what should we make of the post-viral state of the industry? Is it possible to see patterns, predict developments, and learn lessons for the future? Our guest speakers think it is!

We are delighted to continue our series of Guild seminars with two of the world’s best connected beer writers:

  • Tim Webb and Stephen Beaumont, co-authors of The World Atlas of Beer, spent the first few months of the global lockdown finishing their book’s third UK edition, describing the state of beer in the world without being able to travel beyond the end of their rather different streets.  They have spent the last couple of months, with help from their international contacts, bringing things even more up-to-date for their upcoming North American edition, publishing in September.

Tim and Stephen will be sharing their insights into what has been happening to brewers and beer markets both great and small across the planet, including COVID-inflicted damage and perhaps surprising success. At the hearty of their talk will be how  the pandemic as changed and, indeed, is still changing the world of brewing, and which of those changes look likely to stick.

To RSVP, contact secretary@beerguild.co.uk.

All attendees will be sent the Zoom link the day before the event.
