Opening date set for refurbished pub and new beer house in Charlestown

St Austell Brewery has announced the official reopening date for its Charlestown harbourside pub and new beer house concept, with both set to welcome guests next month.

The Harbour Beer House, which has seen the former Harbour Inn transformed into a trendy new beer hangout, will open on Saturday June 22nd, whilst iconic pub, The Pier House, will reopen on Friday 28th June.

The pub has been closed for a major refurbishment since the end of last year following a devastating fire in early 2023.

Renovations have been underway to restore the pub to its former glory and bring in new touches, with a whole new look to be revealed.

Helen Sprason, Area Manager for St Austell Brewery said: “It’s been amazing to watch the Pier House transform over the months to restore the pub to its former glory and then some.

“We’ve sensitively exposed the history of the building, showcasing the grandeur of the structure and how it’s been used over the years. There will be a dedicated restaurant area, lots of cosy nooks to sit and watch the world go by, and a lovely new bar, fully stocked with our range of award-winning beers.

“The 23 rooms are also receiving a major makeover, with the introduction of new textures and materials to reflect the pub’s coastal surroundings. We can’t wait for everyone to come and experience the Pier House once again.”

The Harbour Beer House, a joint venture between Padstow-based Harbour Brewing Co and St Austell Brewery.

There will be a series of roadshows around Cornwall in the four days running up to the reopening date of the Beer House where people can bag VIP invites to an exclusive night on Friday 21st June – the day before its public opening  – along with beer tokens.

The special event will kick off at 6pm with acoustic music moving into DJ set; people will be able to pour their own beer and chat to brewers.

Look out for the St Austell Brewery team around The Oystercatcher, Harbour Inn, Chainlocker, Old Success Inn and Pier House to bag exclusive tickets.

Harbour Beer House will be the go-to place to experience Harbour Brewing’s amazing beers, with regular new and exclusive beers on show, supported by St Austell’s beers and innovation.

As well as amazing beers and drinks, the new hangout will serve freshly made pizzas and host live music sets. There will be takeaway fridges too so beer lovers can choose packaged brews, from breweries further afield, to enjoy at home.

To mark the reopening of The Pier House, St Austell Brewery is teaming up with Biffa, its waste partner, to invite the public and its employees to take part in a group beach clean in Charlestown on Saturday 22nd June, too.

Those who join will be treated to a free tea and coffee before the clean and a free pint and slice of pizza in the newly opened Harbour Beer House afterwards. Those who would like to join can meet outside of the Pier House at 10:30am, with the clean finishing at midday.

The full launch party for the Beer House and Pier House will be held in September.
