A remarkable fundraising drive from the debut Pedalling 2 Pubs ride has breached £75k, bringing the total money raised from this year’s Pedalling for Pubs and Pedalling 2 Pubs campaigns to over £400k. The combined fundraising total, which will be split between two fantastic industry charities, The Licensed Trade Charity and Only A Pavement Away, was announced at the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Summer Event on Tuesday.
The incredible final sum was raised by professionals across the hospitality industry, taking part in the two rides. 26 fundraisers tackled more than 450km of hills and challenging terrain in Sri Lanka for Pedalling for Pubs back in April. Following this impressive achievement, 50 other fundraisers cycled across the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds countryside in June, over a 3-day ride. Alongside all these cyclists, supporting partners and sponsors which include KAM, Greene King, Wireless Social, Lucky Saint, BII, Airship/ Toggle, Barclaycard, Punch Pubs & Co, Marston’s, and Fleet Street made this phenomenal fundraising possible.
Remarkably, the 2023 total has surpassed the 2022 total by more than £125k – a tremendous achievement which shows just how fantastic the hospitality industry are at coming together for a good cause. With 2023 being such a successful year, the question is – can we match the total next year? Fundraisers are set to cycle across Kenya for Pedalling for Pubs 2024, while organisers have confirmed Pedalling 2 Pubs will return for a 2nd year with place to take part still open.
Katy Moses, KAM Managing Director and Pedalling for Pubs founder said, “I’m overwhelmed by the final amount raised. It really shows what the hospitality industry is all about. The amount of effort and energy that has gone into this is truly inspiring, thank you to all that took part.
The introduction of the Pedalling 2 Pubs UK ride has been such a brilliant addition to the campaign and has been instrumental in achieving this fundraising total. It’s clear that there is huge appetite among the hospitality industry to get involved with Pedalling for Pubs whether it is at home or abroad, and to fundamentally support these great charities. With such momentum behind this fundraising campaign, I’m excited to see how it can grow, and how the money raised will change people’s lives for the better.”
