Pellicle Magazine Seeks New Headline Sponsor

Pellicle Magazine is seeking a brand new headline sponsor to support its goal of becoming profitable in 2023. For the past four years the online publication and podcast has had the support of independent London-based bottle shop Hop Burns & Black, but with this sponsorship deal coming to an end, the magazine is seeking a like minded business to take its place.

Founded in 2019 by writer Matthew Curtis and brewer Jonathan Hamilton, Pellicle expanded its team in 2021 when it recruited writers Katie Mather and Lily Waite as associate editors. In its four year existence it has worked with over 150 writers, illustrators and photographers, including award-winning writers such as Pete Brown, David Jesudason, Emma Inch, David Nilsen, Eoghan Walsh, Will Hawkes, and many more. In 2022 it was named the UK’s “Best Independent Craft Beer Promotion” by SIBA, the Society of Independent Brewers.

“While we’re very sad to say goodbye to Hop Burns & Black, we see this as an opportunity to forge an exciting new partnership,” Pellicle’s editor in chief Matthew Curtis said. “We’re determined to prove that an editorially independent drinks magazine is a viable business in 2023, and we look forward to taking on a sponsor that can help us achieve our goals, while ensuring our contributors are paid at industry-standard rates.”

The magazine, which is expected to reach over 100,000 unique readers in 2023, is largely funded by reader subscriptions through the Patreon platform, and currently has over 340 subscribers. Pellicle is also completely free to access, without paywalls, and so a new sponsor would help the publication achieve its long term goal of financial sustainability.
