Prost! Anspach & Hobday Announce Oktoberfest Celebrations At Croydon Brewery And Tap Room

Independent London craft brewery Anspach & Hobday have announced the launch of their Oktoberfest celebration, Oktoberfest at The Croydon Tap.

Oktoberfest at The Croydon Tap takes place on Saturday 18th September from 12 noon-7pm. Tickets are priced at £5 with your first beer on Anspach & Hobday and are available here.

The event will bring a taste of Bavaria to Croydon with pretzels, Lederhosen, traditional music and decorations combined with the launch of Anspach & Hobday’s quartet of Oktoberfest specials.

Anspach & Hobday’s Oktoberfest range include The Festival Lager, The Rauchbier, The Hefeweizen and The Gose. The range will also be available to purchase online at www.anspachandhobday.com/shop from Saturday 18th September. You can find more about the beers below.

Anspach & Hobday’s Bermondsey mixed fermentation brewery and taproom, The Arch House, will be holding a non-ticketed celebration to mark the end of Oktoberfest on Saturday 2nd October.

The Pigeon, Anspach & Hobday’s craft beer bar and bottle-shop in Camberwell, will also have the beers on throughout the period.

Head of Production and Co-Founder Paul Anspach says: “It’s no exaggeration to say that for the brew team, Oktoberfest really is the most exciting time of the year. Whilst we love experimenting with new and exciting ingredients, flavours and techniques, we all have an immense respect for the tradition and time honored methods of brewing and production that make German beers so very special.

Oktoberfest gives us a chance to engage with these beers, and our focus is always on producing honest, respectful representations of these great styles. We are especially excited this year to be hosting an Oktoberfest celebration at our Croydon site as there really is something special about drinking beer precisely where it is made.”

ABOUT THE BEERS

The Festival Lager (5.6%) – A classic Marzen-style Festbier, brewed to a higher ABV than our core Lager, and with a higher portion of Munich malt. Bold, sweet malt flavours are balanced by a noble hop bitterness. Having spent several months in our horizontal lagering tanks, the beer has had all the time needed for the flavours and aromas to round out, and come together to create a perfectly balanced, smooth, celebratory Lager.

The Rauchbier (5.6%) – The Rauchbier is our homage to the great smoked beers of Bamberg. Dark, rich, and immensely smokey, The Rauchbier is as wholesome as they come. The lager fermentation and extended cold conditioning in our horizontal tanks rounds out and balances the beer, keeping it crisp, fresh and incredibly drinkable. Our finest Rauchbier to date.

The Gose (4.0%) – Light, fresh, salty and tart, The Gose is our interpretation of the classic Leipzig sour beer in its purest form. Whilst not quite as sour as Berliner Weisses, a bright acidity makes the beer incredibly refreshing, whilst a touch of salt adds a delicate savoury element, resulting in ultimate drinkability. The use of modern German hops (H. Melon. H. Blanc) bring the style up to date and add a fresh fruitiness to the aroma and palate.

The Hefeweizen (5.0%) – A classic Bavarian inspired Wheat Beer. Whilst a touch of Munich malt adds some colour and a touch of maltyness, this beer is all about the interaction between wheat and a classic strain of Hefeweizen yeast. Typical aromas of bananas, cloves and spice lead to a full, rounded palette and a clean, refreshing finish. Huell Melon hops add some additional fruitiness to what is otherwise a very traditional interpretation of the style.
