Queer Brewing Releases Unofficial Beer Of Pride

Queer-owned beer producer Queer Brewing has released Pride Pils to raise money for LGTBQIA+ charity organisations.

Queer Brewing is releasing their first Pride-focused beer Pride Pils to celebrate Pride month and help raise money for LGBTQ+ charity Opening Doors.

Whilst Queer Brewing believe that Pride should be celebrated every day and that every month is Pride month, this year they’re celebrating Pride with their “unofficial beer of Pride”, an easy-drinking, crisp, and refreshing 5.2% ABV Pilsner.

Pride Pils is a Czech-inspired pilsner with a crisp clean character, a bright and classic lager profile, notes of soft bread and cracker from the pilsner malt, lightly herbal, floral, and spicy notes from the Lubelski and Hallertau Mittelfrüh hops and a long, enjoyably bitter finish, best enjoyed in the June sunshine at your local Pride event.

Pride Pils is a Pride beer made by queers that will be raising both awareness of inequality for LGTBQ+ people still rampant in society and money for the National charity Opening Doors.

The beer will be officially launched on the 2nd of June 2023 in bars and taprooms located in areas with Pride events in a series of mini tap takeovers. Cans and kegs will be available in the Queer Brewing webshop or Sella for trade from 23rd May 2023.

The eye-catching label design is a departure from their usual style and takes inspiration from iconic 1970s and ‘80s beer branding as well Daniel Quasar’s Progress Pride flag. The Progress flag set out to incorporate a more inclusive spectrum of people and their identities than the previous Pride flag iteration.

Queer Brewing, who work with various world-class breweries to assist with production, are thrilled that Bristol brewery Wiper and True were able to produce such an extra-special beer. They have loved working with such a talented team to make Pride Pils something everyone involved is really proud of, and to bring the Queer Brewing team’s vision and recipe to life.

Opening Doors is the only dedicated national charity connecting LGBTQ+ people over 50 with activities, events, support and information. They also provide accredited training to professionals, conduct research, and create policy. Opening Doors will receive 10% of the Pride Pils proceeds, which will support them in providing their much-needed support and services. Queer Brewing founder Lily Waite met Opening Doors staff at the 2022 DIVA Awards—where she was highly commended in the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category—and has been excited to support them ever since.

Queer Brewing founder Lily Waite says:

“I’ve long maintained that for both myself, as a queer trans woman, and so many LGBTQ+ people every month is Pride month, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something extra special for June. This year we’re throwing ourselves into the spirit of Pride, supporting local and regional Pride events all over the country with a range of mini-events all over, taking part in the Ask for Clive Campaign’s Pub Pride as their national beer partner, and releasing our very own Pride Pils.

We’re so excited to launch this Czech-inspired pilsner and to see the beer go out to pubs, bars, bottleshops, and other venues across the country, for our nationwide launch on the 2nd of June, and even more excited to be supporting such a fantastic charity with this beer.”

Notes to Editors:

The Queer Brewing Project was founded in early 2019 to provide visibility and representation for LGBTQ+ people in and around beer, and to build community, advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, and raise money for vital LGBTQ+ charities. After recognising a significant lack of LGBTQ+ community in the beer world, founder Lily Waite set out to change that, by working with first UK-based, and then international breweries to take up space in an industry dominated by cisgender, heterosexual, male voices.

Queer Brewing has since grown from a passion project into an empowering brand and entity in its own right. In the 4 years since the project began, they’ve brewed over 50 different collaboration beers in 5 countries—they’ve teamed up with breweries in Denmark, Germany, Norway, and the USA, as well as plenty at home in the UK—raising tens of thousands of pounds for a whole host of incredible charities. Lily has been dubbed an “LGBTQ icon”, and has been honoured as a Woman of the Year in 2021, topped Code Hospitality’s 30 Under 30 in 2022, named one of the most important voices in beer, a trendsetter and trailblazer, and one of the next generation of women leading the pub sector.

In 2021 Queer Brewing began producing its own core range of beers and in 2022 began brewing regular specials. Now a team of three, the small brewery is gaining more and more recognition on the national and international beer scene, both for its mission, and its beers.
