Ready to Rock and Roll

The Punchbowl & Ladle reopens following a sensitive refurbishment

The Punchbowl & Ladle, a popular Cornish pub nestled among the scenic woodlands of Penelewey near Truro, has reopened its doors following an internal revamp.

The traditional thatched Cornish pub has a rich history dating back to the 15th century and has played a key part in the stories of travellers, mariners, and locals – both old and new.

Inspired by the colours and textures of the pub’s woodland surroundings, the newly refreshed interiors see shades of pastel greens and burnt reds complement the cosy charm of the bar and snug areas. In the dining room and restaurant, lighter neutral colours share the space with walls adorned in colourful feature wallpaper, with nods to the pub’s history decorated throughout. The original features of the pub, including the low beams and open fireplace, remain untouched.

Joining from the Harbour Inn in Porthleven, Annabell O’Neill and Oli Anderson took over the reins of The Punchbowl in May, with Annabell fronting operations as general manager whilst Oli is leading the kitchen team as head chef.

On the refurbishment, Annabell O’Neill said, “The Punchbowl and Ladle is an iconic pub in Cornwall and the touch-up reflects its warm and cosy feel, just with a bit of added sparkle. It’s been brilliant to get to know the locals and welcome visitors in the past few months, and feels great to be able to throw open the doors again and light the fire to show off our new interiors!”

The Punchbowl and Ladle will be open seven days a week to welcome guests back. The historic pub has an intimate private dining room, a games room, a 100-cover restaurant as well as a relaxed outdoor seating area, making it the perfect place to dine and drink, whatever the occasion. The pub is also dog-friendly, ensuring four-legged friends are always welcome.
