Retirement of Tim Dewey as CEO and appointment of Andrew Carter, currently CEO of Chapel Down, as successor.

The Board of Timothy Taylor’s, Yorkshire Brewers of Landlord, the UK’s No 1 cask ale by value, announces the impending retirement in March 2025 of Tim Dewey after ten highly successful years as CEO. He will be succeeded by Andrew Carter, currently CEO of Chapel Down Group PLC, the leading English winemaker.

Andrew has previously held senior leadership positions in the drinks industry, working on brands including Bombay Sapphire, Penfolds, Chase Vodka, Bacardi, Strongbow, and San Miguel.

Tim Clarke, Chairman of Timothy Taylor’s said “The Board are extremely grateful to Tim Dewey for all that he has achieved over the past decade, in developing the business through a sustained focus on sales and marketing as well as investment in brewing quality, including the current £9m capital programme at the Knowle Spring Brewery.  In that time, our leading brand, Landlord, has grown from No 8 in the cask ale market to recently achieving the No 1 position by value in the category. We are delighted that he will be succeeded by Andrew Carter, who also has an extensive and proven record in the development of premium drinks brands.”

Andrew Carter said “I am delighted to be joining the Timothy Taylor family-owned business at this exciting stage in its history.  Since 1858 Taylor’s have been producing outstanding quality cask ales and I am looking forward to tackling the category challenges and building the position of Timothy Taylor’s as the number one cask ale brand in the UK.  Tim has done an excellent job, supported by a strong leadership team and Board.  It is going to be great to work with them to create the next chapter in the successful development of the Company.”

Ends.

Notes to editors:

In 1858 Timothy Taylor began brewing beer in Cook Lane in the West Riding town of Keighley. He struck upon a successful formula and in 1863 set up and built a larger brewery on the Knowle Spring where the Company has remained ever since.

The brewery remains in the Taylor family and is now the last independent brewery of its type left in West Yorkshire. This independence enables Taylor’s to survive as one of the few brewers still brewing true cask ales in the same way it has always done.

The unique taste of Timothy Taylor’s beers can’t be put down to any single thing. It’s the result of years of hard work, skill and doing things the hard way because it makes the difference. Taking extra time, care and pride in traditional, hands-on brewing and making no compromises when it comes to ingredients.

Four Heriot Watt trained brewers oversee every brew. The finest grade barley, Golden Promise, is used along with Taylor’s unique water from the Knowle Spring, whole flower hops from expert growers and the unique strain of Taylor’s Taste yeast.  All for that taste of Taylors.

Landlord is one of the most awarded beers in Britain and has won both CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain and the Brewing Industry Awards Gold Medal four times. It is now the UK’s number one cask ale by value and demonstrating year on year growth coupled with excellent rate of sale. Source: CGA On Trade, 12 w/e 15/6/24 vs last year.

Timothy Taylor’s own eighteen characterful pubs in Yorkshire, and Michelin starred The White Swan in Fence, Lancashire. Taylor’s on the Green serves as the managed brewery taproom in Keighley and the other managed pub, The Woolly Sheep, in Skipton has just undergone an extensive refurbishment. The remaining pubs are run by excellent tenants who are part of the Timothy Taylor’s family with some having been at the helm for decades.
