Reverend and the Makers launch Summer Ale

Reverend and the Makers have become Reverend and the Beer Makers as they gear up to launch their very own beer in conjunction with Thornbridge Brewery. The Reverend and the Makers Summer Ale is 4.8% and will be launched at TheBearded Theory Music Festival on the 17th May 2013 – the night the band headline the festival. The beer will be then be available nationwide.

Founder member, guitarist and co-song writer with Reverend and the Makers Ed Cosens has always dreamed of opening his own brewery and is an avid home brewer. “I’ve always loved beer” says Ed “but my eyes were opened when I began to work part time at one of the Thornbridge pubs a few years ago as the band got going.  It was then that I realised how diverse and creative beer could be and it really spurred me on to experiment more with my brewing at home”

As a Sheffield based band Reverend and the Makers are well known to Thornbridge as is Ed’s enthusiasm for beer making.  Simon Webster, Thornbridge Director, says  “Ed really is keen and we know he entered our Great British Home Brew Competition with a beer that was highly praised.” Ed then approached Thornbridge with the idea of creating a ‘Reverend Beer’.

“In planning the Reverend Summer Ale we worked with Ed and the rest of the band in beer tasting sessions to see what beer they would prefer to make. Ed, with his knowledge of home brewing, was keen to engage with our brewers and really get involved with the beer recipe and the brewing process”.

The entire band went to Thornbridge to support Ed and witness The Reverend Summer Ale being produced.  “I’m really pleased with the beer” says Ed “and the experience of working with the brewing team was a real eye opener in terms of the details and quality checking they do. I could say it’s a bit like producing a new album when I see the amount of effort put into every brew to make sure the quality is as high as it needs to be”.

Rob Lovatt, Head Brewer at Thornbridge, describes the Reverend’s Summer Ale as “a classic example of its  style; a pale golden colour, light-bodied and easy drinking.  The ale’s highly fragrant floral and spicy flavours are the result of the generous use of the best hops from Australia, USA and England, including Cascade, Amarillo, Galaxy and  Fuggles. Very crisp and extremely moreish’.
