The Publican Morning Advertiser’s Drinks Editor, Robyn Black, has brewed her very own beer in collaboration with Brains – a schwarzbier called Blackbird.
Blackbird is a 5.0% ABV black lager. Brewed with Southern German lager yeast, Munich and Dark Crystal malts and Saaz, Hallertau and Cascade hops, this is a refreshing beer with hints of chocolate, coffee and liquorice combined with spicy hop flavours and a mellow citrus zing.
Blackbird is the second collaboration Continental Beer from the Brains craft brewery. In their second Annual Challenge, Brains have invited writers and bloggers, including Pete Brown and Adrian Tierney-Jones, to develop their ‘ultimate Continental Beer’. There are a range of styles planned including a Marzen and a Saison.
All seven Continental Beers, including one from Brains, will be independently judged at an event in December. The winning beer will become part of Brains’ beer festival programme.
Last year Brains hosted the ‘Ultimate IPA’ challenge which saw the likes of Melissa Cole, Simon Martin aka Mr Real Ale Guide and Tim Hampson brew their take on an IPA with Brains. Crowned the Ultimate IPA was Boilermaker, a whisky-infused IPA, which was brewed with Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham from Thinking Drinkers.
Blackbird will be available in selected Brains craft beer houses from Monday 20th of May in keg dispense. For a full list of stockists visitwww.brainscraftbrewery. com/findourbeers
