Salcombe Brewery Co. is delighted that its Pilsner has been awarded a Gold Medal at the 2022 European Beer Challenge following hot on the heels of a Gold for Belgica, its small batch Belgian Pale Ale, at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Awards.
Jordan Mace, Salcombe Brewery’s Managing Director, comments: “It is a tribute to our great brew team, led by Sam Beaman, that two of our newest beers, Pilsner and Belgica, have picked-up Golds in two separate prestigious awards. We are passionate about consistently producing top quality beers and offering our customers something different to try alongside our range of permanent beers, and these awards, judged by leading industry experts, are testament to the brew team’s hard work, creativity and focus on quality.”
Award-winning, SALSA accredited Salcombe Brewery Co. produces a range of premium cask ale and keg products at its innovative Estuary View brewery which nestles in the Devon countryside above the world famous Salcombe Estuary.
Salcombe Pilsner (ABV 5.4%), which also won a Gold at The 2022 Taste of the West Awards, uses the finest British malt and has a delicate floral and herbal aroma, derived from the noble Czech and German hops. The gentle malt flavour complements the bittersweet palate, culminating in a crisp, dry finish.
Belgica (ABV 5.0%) is a light amber beer that has a smooth malt base, gentle hop character and bags of flavour from the yeast. It boasts a gentle, toasty and nutty aroma from the malt, while the yeast brings an unmistakable spicy and fruity aroma to the beer with hints of pear drop and banana.
The European Beer Challenge brings together Europe’s leading beer buyers and top beers from across the globe for a judging process that subjects each product to a rigorous blind tasting.
The SIBA National Independent Beer Awards judges a huge range of beers across a number of styles in separate cask, keg and bottle & can competitions. As the awards are judged mostly by brewers, industry experts and beer journalists the SIBA Independent Beer Awards are very much seen as the prestigious ‘Brewers’ choice Awards’ by the industry.
