San José craft beers join Left Coast’s UK line-up

HermitageLeft Coast, the UK importer of Californian craft beer, has added three pairs of new brews from Hermitage Brewing Co. to their growing line-up.

Left Coast is distributing Hoptopia and Maltopia in 354ml bottles; Ale of the 2 Tun Imperial Stout and Ale of the Imp Imperial IPA in 500ml bottles; and Citra and Polaris from Hermitage’s Single Hop IPAs in 650ml bottles.

All six brews are also available on draught.

Hoptopia and Maltopia each scooped Gold in the 2011 California State Fair Commercial Craft Brew Competition. Hoptopia (8%/65 IBUs), an amber-coloured flagship IPA, offers a mixture of piney, citrus, and floral hop notes balanced by a toasted malt flavour and hints of caramel. Maltopia (9%/25 IBUs) is a reddish brown Scotch Ale with a deep toasted malty flavour, caramel character, hint of plum and hop bitterness for balance.

Pitch black Ale of the 2 Tun Imperial Stout (9%/30 IBUs) offers cocoa, black coffee, roasted malt and molasses aroma. The flavour is all about black coffee, bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted malts and soft fruit. Moderately full bodied beer with matching carbonation, it has just enough alcohol to keep your cheeks warm. Ale of the Imp Imperial IPA (8%/99.9IBUs) is a brilliantly clear gold IPA offering pungent piney hops and fragrant floral notes. The herbal hop flavour has a bright, citrusy character and a light toasted malt backbone. Medium-full bodied with high carbonation, the aggressive hop bitterness lingers on the palate.

Citra Single Hop IPA (7%/55 IBUs) is the most popular of Hermitage’s 16-strong Single Hop Series. Dark amber with an off-white head, the aroma is floral with citrus notes, while the malts have a toasted barley character. Citra‘s hop flavour is resiny, citrus offset by toasty malt and a touch of caramel. Moderate-full bodied with a bright carbonation and a dry finish. Polaris Single Hop IPA (7%/70 IBUs) is the most recent addition to the Series. Polaris is grown in Hull, Germany and is a beast of a hop with an alpha acid content ranging from an extremely high 18-23% The Polaris hop is enjoyed largely for its aromatic properties.
