Scotland Picks up 18 medals at the International Beer Challenge 2013

While most thoughts are on the athletics field and the 2014 Commonwealth games Scotland’s Brewers have been taking medals at quite a different event which equally has been testing their skill and expertise.

Scotland blossoming Craft Brewery scene is punching well above its weight on the international scene.

With a combined medal tally of three Gold, nine Silver and six Bronze medals, Scotland had a great competition.

Wining ales beers came from:  Arran Brewery,  Belhaven, Cairngorm, Hariestoun, Innis and Gunn, Fyne Ales and Steward Brewing.  Even Marks & Spencer’s own brand Scottish Craft Lager struck Gold.

However, these are only a warm up for the independent Brewers trade bodies (SIBA) Beer Festival and Competition which will take place in November where the vast majority of Scottish beer will be on display and Scottish brewers will compete for the top Scottish titles.

Fellow brewers from around the UK will be asked to judge the Scottish brews in cask. bottle and keg and choose the Scottish Champion. Competition will be intense.

The competition will be held on the 7/8th November in Glasgow at Pollokshaws Borough Halls, boors open to the public on the Friday night and all day Saturday.  A chance to taste the best of the best as well as the rest.

Tickets will be on sale shortly available from SIBA.
