Scottish craft brewer, BrewDog, today announced its plans to open its much-anticipated state-of-the-art Australian brewery and HQ right on the river in Brisbane’s Murarrie area.

  • Downloadable hi-res images and the full press release are available for download on the BrewDog Press Hub: https://www.brewdog.com/lowdown/press-hub/brewdog-brisbane
  • BrewDog announced in July of last year that it had narrowed its search for a site to Newcastle and Brisbane.
  • After a public request for its Australian fans to submit ideas for a suitable location, the brewery was inundated with hundreds of proposals, including a video pitch from the Government of South Australia.
  • Following numerous scouting trips, meetings and feasibility studies, BrewDog settled on the Queensland capital as the site of Australian headquarters.
  • BrewDog’s investment in Brisbane will total $30 million, including the construction of the 50,000hl, 3,000 sqm brewing and canning facility. The site will also boast a restaurant, taproom and visitor centre.
  • Construction is due to start in the second half of 2018 and the first Australia brewed BrewDog beers are expected to roll out in early 2019.
  • The site in Australia will initially serve the Australian market, with the potential to export to Asia. BrewDog will be brewing its full line-up of headliner beers such as Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club and Jet Black Heart as well as small-batch brews specifically for the regional market. BrewDog’s supply chain will take advantage of the brewery’s proximity to Australian and New Zealand hop farms, which produce some of the best hops in the world.
  • The launch of BrewDog Australia is expected to generate 150 jobs in the Brisbane area over the next 5 years, and the brewery will soon be recruiting for a Head of Production. Further hires will be announced throughout 2018 at brewdog.com/aus.
  • BrewDog’s remarkable growth has been powered by its record-breaking Equity for Punks crowdfunding initiative, which has seen the Scottish brewery raise over £52million since 2009 from more than 70,000 passionate craft beer fans across Europe and America.
  • Energised by the fast-growing craft beer community in Brisbane and the rest of Australia, the brewery will be considering plans for an Australian Equity for Punks crowdfunding raise that will go into expanding its presence across the country.

Zarah Prior, Director of BrewDog Australia said:

“We’ve been so humbled by the support from local businesses as well as the local community who have shown a real passion for BrewDog to call Brissie home. It’s a city that’s on the brink of some incredible growth, and we can’t wait to be a part of that. There are tonnes of amazing local breweries we’re looking forward to working alongside and collaborating with. From local brewing pioneers Green Beacon and Newstead, through to up and coming breweries like our mates at Range Brewing. We are hugely appreciative of the support we received from Brisbane Marketing, Austrade, and the Queensland Government all of whom played a role in sealing the deal for Brisbane.”

James Watt, BrewDog cofounder said:

“Australians are some of the most passionate and informed beer drinkers on the planet. The encouragement I received from the craft beer movement during my last visit in the country blew me away. I’m glad our Australian fans at home and in the diaspora were relentless in pushing for a brewery, and I look forward to sharing my first can of Aussie brewed Punk IPA with them!”
