SHARP’S LAUNCHES NEW CONNOISSEUR’S CHOICE BEERS

Single Brew Reserve 2012.jpgCornish brewery unveils the latest offerings from the award-winning range

19th February 2013: Sharp’s Brewery is unveiling its first Connoisseur’s Choice beers of the year in the form of Spiced Red (9% ABV) and Single Brew Reserve 2012 (4.5% ABV). The Connoisseur’s Choice range of premium bottled beers is designed to profile the best ingredients and be the perfect partner to quality food.

The range demonstrates the skill of Sharp’s head brewer, Stuart Howe, for whom innovation in brewing is perpetual. Stuart has designed and brewed very different beers, each one borne out of his passion for beer and love of aroma and flavour, balance and precision. New products will follow each year reflecting the diversity and beauty of what beer can be.

Stuart says: “The Connoisseur’s Choice range is designed to show the drinker the breadth of flavours and sensations available from beer. They are packed with enticing flavour, a partner to good food and something to savour.

“Spiced Red is a big, warming brew, with a long dry finish. Single Brew Reserve 2012 has a mild bitterness which makes it a very refreshing selection ahead of a sumptuous meal or in between courses.”

The Connoisseur’s Choice range received a number of accolades last year, including International Beer Challenge gold and silver medals for Quadrupel Ale 2011 and Honey Spiced Tripel 2011 respectively.

Spiced Red and Single Brew Reserve 2012, which are also in contention for industry honours, are available through Sharp’s webpage, selected beer retailers and restaurants now.

Full tasting notes

Single Brew Reserve 2012 features US super hop Citra, with its stunning aroma and rounded, fruity bitterness. Brewed with Pale Ale and Carapils malts, the beer is first wort-hopped to a mild bitterness. A judiciously large amount of Citra is then added during a two month cold maturation to allow the full beauty of the hop fragrance to infuse the beer.

Single Brew Reserve 2012 is excellent as an aperitif or a palate cleanser between courses and is particularly good at lifting citrus flavours.

Spiced Red is a deep-red spiced ale brewed with coriander and a really fruity yeast originating from Ireland. The beer is dry hopped in warm conditioning with Hallertauer Perle hops which were especially fragrant this year. The beer was spiced with coriander just before bottling to boost the hop notes and hop spice stands out on the nose supported by a complex array of fruity, liquorice and malt. In the mouth, the beer is big and warming with a long dry finish.

Spiced Red is a suitably rich partner to stews and roasted red meats.

About Sharp’s Brewery Ltd

Founded in 1994, Sharp’s Brewery is a modern brewer of cask conditioned beer based at Rock in Cornwall and has grown rapidly to become the largest brewer of cask beer in the South West and the owner of one of the UK’s fastest growing cask beer brands, Doom Bar.

Sharp’s beer is brewed exclusively using just British malted barley, whole hop flowers, Sharp’s own yeast and Cornish water. The brewery at Rock is one of the UK’s most sustainable and is an industry leader with water to beer conversion ratio of just 2.8 litres per litre of beer.

2011 saw Head Brewer, Stuart Howe, crowned All Party Parliamentary Beer Group Brewer of the Year, Doom Bar and Monsieur Rock scoop Bronze Medals at the International Beer Challenge Awards and Sharp’s Special and Chalky’s Bite crowned in best pale ale categories at the World Beer Awards.
