Back by popular demand, independent, flavour-forward brewery, Siren Craft Brew, today revived its legendary limited-edition collection of renowned chocolatey stouts: Caribbean Chocolate Cake.
Following its huge success in 2018, Siren has brought back this illustrious range, but with two exciting new twists on the stout collection. In true Siren style, these new concoctions are the result of months of experimentation with textures, flavours, and brewing techniques.
The journey of Caribbean Chocolate Cake (CCC) goes all the way back to 2013 when Darron Anley, founder of Siren Craft Brew, was introduced to the idea of experimenting with wood in brewing, resulting in some truly magical textures and flavours. Feeling inspired and eager to try this out himself, Darron had a trio of cacao nibs, Cypress wood spirals and brand-new experimental hops imported to the brewery – the rest is history.
Caribbean Chocolate Cake is the result of painstaking hard work, audacious experimentation plus trialling new processes, new equipment, and expert ingredient suppliers, giving the greatest take from these beverages to date.
The finished product, four outstanding chocolate stouts that break all the rules, is something quite remarkable: bellowing notes of orange and dark chocolate with hints of coconut, tamarind, lemon, coffee, and a whisper of vanilla wafer notes. The thick, creamy texture is a truly luxurious treat for your tastebuds, the epitome of indulgence.
Available in four different variations: Nitro Caribbean Chocolate Cake, Caribbean Chocolate Pancake, Death by Caribbean Chocolate Cake and Barrel Aged Caribbean Chocolate Cake.
Nitro Caribbean Chocolate Cake, 7.4% ABV
Siren has formulated a Nitro twist on Caribbean Chocolate Cake for its first rendition. Having dabbled with Nitrogenation a lot this year, the brand is becoming a trailblazer in the world of Nitro beers. For those unfamiliar, Nitro beers are created by replacing the CO2 in with Nitrogen during the brewing process, resulting in unbelievably creamy textures and improved head retention. Nitro CCC is the thickest, most scrumptious delight guaranteed to keep you cosy over these winter months.
Hand-roasted cacao nibs give hints of tamarind and soft lemon, along with a beautiful chocolate baseline. The malts provide coffee and roast notes in abundance, while the hop profile adds orange and coconut flavours. Spinning on Cypress wood is the icing on the cake. Pure canned indulgence.
Caribbean Chocolate Pancake Stack, 7.4% ABV
What happens when you cross the most extravagant beer with the most extravagant breakfast? Something special. Layering notes of maple syrup with wood to maximise the depth of flavour, Siren added a dash of smoked malt to work in tandem with the bourbon maple staves and elevate the sweetness. There is a sticky undertone which adds a delicate aroma akin to the impact you’d get from perfectly prepared streaky bacon. Out of this world liquid pleasure.
Death by Caribbean Chocolate Cake, 10.2% ABV
Death by CCC comes at a walloping 10.5% ABV, enough to send you to chocolate filled heaven and back. Siren raises the stakes yet again, throwing in more cacao nibs, more cacao husks, more lactose, and more wood, ramping it up to imperial strength. The Amburana wood gives the beer a spicy, fragrant twist making it a unique drinking experience, unlike anything you have ever indulged in before.
Barrel Aged Caribbean Chocolate Cake, 8.8% ABV
Barrel Aged beers are something of an art, offering the subtlest of differences in tastes and textures to keep craft beer enthusiasts on their toes. The base was brewed back in 2018, spun for 72 hours on cacao and Cypress prior to filling a mixture of Buffalo Trace bourbon and rye barrels, then spun again. Imagine spice, caramel and oak warped into a beautifully matured beer. It ages better than fine wine.
Brewing up a storm just in time for this year’s festivities, Caribbean Chocolate Cake will be available from 20th November at the Siren webshop, www.sirencraftbrew.com.
Caribbean Chocolate Cake can be bought individually or as a four-pack. Nitro CCC and Caribbean Chocolate Pancake Stack retail at £4.50 each; Death by Caribbean Chocolate Cake for £5.50; while Barrel Aged CCC is priced at £6.00. Or you can purchase the four-pack for £20.00.
