‘Summer Time Buzz’ for Hogs Back Brewery

Hogs Back Brewery is set to reinforce its position as Surrey’s leading brewer with a presence at food, drink and other outdoor events across the county over the coming months. Local beer lovers will also be able to try exclusive experimental beers available through the Brewery Shop.

The brewer, based in Tongham, near Farnham, kicks off its summer campaign at the Surrey County Show in Guildford on 29 May, where it is sponsoring the Sheepdog Trial, a new event this year which is expected to be one of the most popular attractions of the day. It takes place in the public arena, where Hogs Back branding will be prominent.

The brewer will also be offering free tastings of its popular beers including TEA within the Visit Guildford marquee at the Show, and selling a wide range of ales and gift packs to take away.

On 10th June, Hogs Back will be part of the new Ripley Grape & Grain Festival, which will showcase local beers, ciders, wines and spirits. And on 8 July, they are one of the sponsors of the Farnham Lions’ Summer Spectacular, celebrating the Lions global centenary and 50 years of Farnham Lions.

Owner, Rupert Thompson, said, “Our brewery is named after the Hogs Back, one of Surrey’s most beautiful natural features, and we are very proud of our roots in the county.

“We’re delighted to be part of these three great events. We’re confident that many of the visitors will enjoy supping a pint of TEA while enjoying the music and other entertainment, and we’re also pleased to be supporting local worthy causes through our involvement.”

He added, “In addition to these annual events, we support a number of local groups, as well as hosting our own activities at the brewery including our Hop Harvest Party, which last year attracted 800 guests and will be running again on 23rd September – this time bigger and better than ever as we celebrate the brewery’s 25th birthday.

“Throughout the summer, we will be testing some new special edition beers – currently we have a bottled honeyed ale, Summer Time Buzz, in the Shop, which is proving popular and this will be followed by a tea-infused beer.”

Notes to editors:

  • Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, Surrey, in the heart of the traditional Surrey hop growing area.
  • Its flagship brand TEA, or Traditional English Ale, is the leading independent ale in Surrey and increasing in popularity elsewhere.
  • The Hogs Back Brewery range includes a number of award-winning draught and bottled beers. Recent launches include Hogstar English Craft Lager, Montezuma’s Chocolate Lager and London’s Outback, all demonstrating Hogs Back’s ability to combine brewing expertise and tradition with product innovation to create distinctive, memorable beers. Hogstar won a Gold award at the Society of Independent Brewers’ National Keg Beer Competition 2015. In 2013, Hogs Back also launched a traditional cloudy cider, Hazy Hog.
  • In September 2015 Hogs Back Brewery harvested the first hops from its own hop garden on a 3.5 acre plot adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct Farnham White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home. Once fully mature, the hop garden will provide 25% of the brewery’s hop requirements.
  • Hogs Back Brewery is growing its presence in both the on and off trade.  Customers include Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Lidl, Majestic Wine, Mitchells & Butlers, Greene King and Spirit Pub Company.
