Managed pub and bar group TCG is launching a new ‘Beer Food’ menu, designed to give its drinking customers a range of interesting snacks to enjoy alongside their favourite tipple.
Beer Food is aimed at groups of customers on occasions such as unwinding after work, taking part in a pub quiz or watching the match on TV. The menu is designed to bridge the gap between bagged snacks and full meals.
TCG chief operating officer Nigel Wright said: “We offer a range of popular menus targeted to the style of venue, such as our ‘King’s Feast’ and ‘Good Honest Food’ concepts, and we saw an opportunity to complement the core food offer in many of our pubs and bars with dishes that work well alongside a pint or a glass of wine.
“Many customers want more than just a bagged snack when they’re out for a drink, but equally they don’t want to sit down for a meal. The ’Beer Food’ menu offers dishes that are fun to eat as finger foods – but we’ll provide forks if we’re asked!”
Beer Food dishes are all presented on wooden boards, either individually, such as the Garlic, Olive & Parmesan flatbread, or Stuffed Jalapenos, or in combinations such as the Meat Platter, which includes a bowl each of Sticky Sausages, Pulled Pork and Black Pudding with Belly Pork Bites. Other dishes include Haggis Tweeds with Whisky Mayonnaise and, for vegetarians, Mexican Bean Bites with Tequila Mayonnaise.
The dishes can all be cooked and plated quickly and simply in busy pubs and bars. “It was important that we didn’t hold up drinks service at busy times, so we’ve developed dishes where most of the prep can be done in advance, and the food served to order without creating queues at the bar,” added Wright.
Among the first TCG venues to launch the Beer Food menu is the award winning Famous Three Kings in west London, one of the capital’s best-known sports bars. General manager Lee Hazell said: “The new Beer Food menu will be a great way to keep customers happy during big games, as well as to generate some extra sales. We introduced it a couple of weeks ago, to get it ‘bedded in’ before the current British Lions tour, which we’re confident will attract crowds of hungry rugby fans. For those who want something to graze on while watching the game, the Beer Food menu is just the ticket.”
