Fuller, Smith and Turner, the premium pubs and hotels business, is delighted to announce its flagship pub, The Admiralty [66 Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DS], is reopening today [Wednesday 5 April] from 5pm. The pub is restored to its former glory, standing proud as the only pub on Trafalgar Square.
Following a complete refit, this iconic site reopens having been closed since July when a fire broke out and the team safely evacuated all customers. To celebrate the reopening, London Fire Brigade Deputy Assistant Commissioner Greg Ashman, and firefighters from Soho fire station came to help Fuller’s Chief Executive Simon Emeny cut the ceremonial ribbon. DAC Ashman was in charge of the incident in July, when over 100 members of the London Fire Brigade worked tirelessly to put the flames out
The extensive refurbishment has seen all areas of the three storey pub restored to their former glory and more, which ensures the same wow factor when walking through the door. From the new aquamarine of the lower floor Gun Deck, to the hidden booths, and the artwork on the mezzanine pelmet – The Admiralty is breathtakingly beautiful.
In addition, as part of this refurbishment, The Admiralty is now fully electric. With a commitment to only procure 100% renewable electricity, the pub is powered completely by a zero carbon energy source – a major step towards Fuller’s commitment to reach Net Zero by 2030.
The Admiralty will be Managed by Matt Cooper, who has had a successful career at Fuller’s – having most recently managed The Hydrant, Monument. The Admiralty is part of Fuller’s Ale & Pie brand and Head Chef Jon Pellew will be cooking up a selection of delicious, freshly made pies as well as other pub classics – alongside an extensive range of premium beers, wines and spirits. It’s the perfect place to celebrate quintessential Englishness – a pie, a pint and a view of Nelson’s Column.
Simon Emeny, Fuller’s Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted to be reopening the doors of The Admiralty – London’s most central pub. The fire was devastating – and we can’t thank our team and the London Fire Brigade enough – but it is great to see this wonderful site back open for business.
“It’s the total embodiment of everything that’s great about a Fuller’s pub. A fantastic range of beers, wines and spirits, delicious home-cooked fresh, seasonal food, an iconic location and a great team offering the warmest of welcomes.”
Matt Cooper, General Manager of The Admiralty, said: “I am so excited to be opening the doors of The Admiralty. I, like many others, have been eagerly awaiting this day. The pub is iconic and its presence has been missed on Trafalgar Square by Londoners and tourists alike. My team and I look forward to welcoming you all.”
Soho Fire Station Commander Jon Singleton and the Soho Fire Crew attended the opening event as honoured guests. Cutting the ribbon was Deputy Assistant Commissioner Greg Ashman who was the Incident Commander on the day of the fire. As a gesture of Fuller’s gratitude to the London Fire Brigade, 50p for every One Gin Floradora cocktail sold at The Admiralty will be donated to the Fire Fighters Charity.
Greg Ashman, London Fire Brigade, said: “Our crews worked in arduous conditions on the hottest week of the year to battle the fire and help save a large amount of the building. So it’s great to see The Admiralty back in action again and we were delighted to be invited along to the grand reopening. It was an honour to cut the ribbon and we wish The Admiralty team the best as they welcome back punters.”
