The Great Sausage Roll Off judging panel announced

The Red Lion in Barnes is excited to announce the all-star judging panel for the Great Sausage Roll Off 2023. This year’s event will take place on Wednesday 8 February – with the judging panel comprising Simon Rimmer [Sunday Brunch]; James O’Brien [LBC]; Kate Nicholls OBE [UKHospitality]; Daniel Clifford [Midsummer House]; and Pip Lacey [Hicce]. Award-winning beer and food writer, Melissa Cole, will once again compere proceedings.

Claire Morgan and Angus McKean, General Managers of The Red Lion, launched the competition in 2013 – which sees competitors from across the country cook and serve their sausage roll creations to a panel of judges to crown an overall Great Sausage Roll Off champion.

Each year, the competition is open to chefs from all backgrounds. This year’s Roll Off entries have been whittled down to a final 16. There are no specific entry criteria – just a thoughtful recipe, with a twist of passion and a whole lot of love. Anyone looking to sample these delicious treats, alongside the judges, can head to The Red Lion on the night for an evening of sausage rolls and merriment, all while raising money for Hospitality Action.

Angus McKean, General Manager of The Red Lion, said: “I am so excited to show off this year’s judging panel and I’m very humbled by their commitment to head down to Barnes for the night. We’ve not held Roll Off for three years, so I’m delighted we are coming back with a bang(er) this year. The calibre of judges means our entrants have a tough challenge ahead of them. The competition is always a bit of fun for everyone involved – but this year it is tinged with a little more emotion than usual, with a chance for us all to come together and share the tribulations our industry has had and continues to experience. What better way to do it than over a world class sausage roll and a beer (or two)?”
