The Licensed Trade Charity Launches New Website and Podcast Series to Offer Support for Hospitality

Licensed Trade Charity (LTC), the 230-year-old industry charity supporting people in the licensed hospitality sector and through its schools, has invested in upgrading its digital communication resources through launch of a brand-new website packed with the latest advice and help, alongside an exciting new podcast series, LTC Talks, featuring exclusive guests and stories.

Launched on the 29th of July, the new website, licensedtradecharity.org.uk, is filled with up-to-date information on how to access help, be it financial assistance, wellbeing support or specialist advice. It has been streamlined to ensure that people working in hospitality and drinks can get access to wellbeing tools quicker and easier than ever before.

To further strengthen its digital platforms, the charity is also premiering its new podcast series, LTC Talks, inviting people from the industry to share what makes the hospitality industry shine.

The podcast will offer insights, guidance, and best practices when it comes to caring for the licensed hospitality workforce, with nine episodes already confirmed. This will include People’s Captain founder Greg Bateman sharing his personal journey with mental health, alongside nutritionist Jessica O’Dwyer speaking about what foods can have an impact on mental health, alongside head of comms at BII Molly Davis talking about how workplaces can best assist staff going through menopause and perimenopause.

The new website and podcast series comes as the LTC experienced an unprecedented 43% jump in calls to its helpline in 2023 compared to the previous year, highlighting the critical role the charity plays in helping support individuals currently or previously employed within the licensed trade. The podcast series aims to provide those working in the trade a chance to listen to the stories of others who may have experienced something similar, in an interactive and engaging way.

As part of the new website and podcast plans, the charity has closed app to offer a more consolidated platform where all the information on how to access help is available in one place, making it easier for those who aren’t in the position to easily use a smartphone a way to view the help available.

Chris Welham, CEO of the LTC, says: “We’re excited to launch the new LTC website and podcast series, LTC Talks, we hope that with this brand-new suite of digital resourcing, the charity is in an even better position to deliver on our mission of transforming lives and unleashing potential across this incredible sector.

“The cost-of-living crisis, alongside other worries, has put a burden on many people within the industry, and we’re here to show them that they don’t have to face it alone. Support is always available through our free, 24/7 helpline, and we encourage all businesses and operators to make this known to their staff members by downloading our free assets online and displaying them in store.

“Thanks to everyone who has supported with this launch, I have no doubt the impact on awareness, and fundamentally the number of people accessing support, will be significant.”

About the Licensed Trade Charity

Founded in 1793, the Licensed Trade Charity has been helping transform lives and unleash potential across the licensed hospitality sector for over 200 years, however, the work the Charity does for the industry has never been more important.

Central to the Licensed Trade Charity’s service is its invaluable 24-hour free helpline that is there day and night to give people the support they need, whenever they need it. Many reach out to the LTC helpline for support with their mental wellbeing, with the charity providing practical guidance and wellbeing support. However, the helpline and website are vital first steps, allowing the Licensed Trade Charity to assess the care needed for its users. Many of its beneficiaries come first through the helpline and then speak to a specialist support team or trained counsellors for support in all areas of social, mental wellbeing and financial aid who will provide help on a confidential basis.

The spectrum of support drinks people can receive from the Licensed Trade Charity is vast, it really is a one stop shop, covering everything from employment advice to one off grants of up to £5,000 that might go towards helping with rent arrears, having a new washing machine fitted or providing new school uniform for children. Of course, the level of support industry professionals can receive is dependent upon length of service and grants are means tested but all resources are completely free. The charity also runs three fully funded independent schools, providing education to many children from the sector. Through its bank of specialists and dedicated staff, the Licensed Trade Charity is perfectly positioned to stop an issue turning into a crisis.
