Come for the beer, stay for the eats and tunes – the Midsummer Beer Happening in Stonehaven has revealed the feast of street food delights and chorus of marvellous musicians on offer at next month’s spectacular event.

The three-day celebration of brewing will once again feature an al fresco food court packed with award-winning producers to tantalise the taste buds, taking visitors on a culinary journey around the world from Spanish empanadas to sizzling soul food, via Scotland’s finest fish and chips.

Meanwhile, inside the Happening’s magnificent marquee at the town’s Baird Park, the cream of local talent will provide the soundtrack to the festival, from high-energy rock to the funkiest funk-rock, sitting alongside traditional Scottish tune and easy jazz.

And that’s not to forget the 120 carefully curated beers from across Scotland and even some Continental guests, all on offer at the Midsummer Beer Happening from Thursday, June 12, to Saturday, June 14.

Robert Lindsay, the festival’s manager, said: “The Midsummer Beer Happening is, of course, all about the beer and we have gone to some lengths to get the finest brewers to come along and share their passion, enthusiasm and their creations.

“But the Happening doesn’t just stop at beer. We go out of our way to create a vibrant, festival atmosphere that is also full of great food and music to make sure the 6,000 people we expect in the marquee over the weekend have the best time.

“Great beer goes best with great food, so we have lined up some of the best street food vendors in the north-east to keep visitors going with some outstanding treats”

Vendors setting up in the outdoor space include the award-winning The Bay On The Road, firm favourites Wark Farm Pies, the fiery delights of Smoke & Soul, woodfired pizzas from Haydns, and Spanish treats from Stonehaven’s own Picos, plus the festival’s own burgers.

And it wouldn’t be a Happening without lush – and medal-winning – ice cream from the town’s Giulianotti’s.

Meanwhile, a rich array of musical talent has been lined up to perform over the three-days of the Happening.

Robert said: “Fans of the Happening love the mix of music we offer, from relaxed jazzy sounds through to floor-filling rock and pop covers or full on funk-rock.”

“Every night of the festival ends with a full-on party in the marquee, with folk dancing the night away and heading home with great memories. We can’t thank enough the talented musicians who come along to make the Happening so memorable.

A total of 16 acts will be hitting the high notes at the Happening this year from Aberdeenshire’s own “supergroup” The Broken Creels, to perennial crowd-pleaser and folk hero, Ray Moore.

Also in the mix will be young Stonehaven band, The Sapiens, plus the Blues Jam Aberdeen House Band fresh from Aberdeen’s iconic Blue Lamp.

Spiorad Trad Band will bring traditional Scottish tunes while Happening favourites Funk Connection will have the crowd strutting their funky stuff right up to last orders.

Robert said: “Brilliant beer, fantastic food, marvellous music … we’ve got everything you need for a three-day party. All we need to add now are the people – 6,000 of them – and then we will have the recipe for a festival to remember.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming you into the marquee – because that’s where it’s Happening.”
