The ‘Reformed’ Place

Situated just off North Road and nestled in the heart of the city centre, The Head of Steam Durham, has worked with its neighbours to invest in, and transform Reform Place, into a vibrant courtyard sun-trap.

Reform Place is tucked away just off North Road and has long been a hidden gem in the city centre for craft beer lovers, but with the recent addition of the award-winning restaurant Coast, along with The Head of Steam’s recent investment in both additional outside space, and a facelift for the area, Reform Place has been transformed.

Looking to rejuvenate Reform Place, The Head of Steam Durham finally received approval to remove an old and derelict building, allowing the expansion of their beer garden by 40 covers, and giving, an otherwise wasted space, a purpose, and add value to the area.

The General Manager Chris commented on this ‘We are thrilled to announce the addition of a brand-new outside seating area at our establishment. This latest enhancement aims to provide guest with an enhanced experience, where they can enjoy our sun trapped courtyard. Durham really comes to life in the sunshine, so we feel this space really adds something to the area, and can’t wait to show it off to our guests.’

‘We are excited to reintroduce live music on a Friday evening, and as well as adding a Wednesday evening quiz to our entertainment offerings’ Chris added.

The Head of Steam opened in May 2009, and offers a diverse range of craft beers from both local and international breweries. The venue boasts a 50% vegan menu, beer tasting experiences and a pool table. The Head of Steam Durham hosts a themed quiz on Wednesday evenings and local bands on Friday evenings, making it a great place to enjoy live music in an intimate setting.

The new outdoor space is set to open on the 13th October with a live band, and a cosy new beer garden for residents and visitors to enjoy.
