The Return of the Ghost Ship

Adnams’ Ghost Ship Pale Ale returned to Southwold in style on Thursday night.

Crowds braved the weather to gather on East Green in Southwold from 8.30pm and witness the promised ghostly spectacle. Just after 9pm, the Ghost Ship appeared in the form of a short film, projected onto the side of the Adnams brewery.

As the projection unfolded, the windows of the brewery appeared to break away, water poured from them and then the spectre of the smugglers’ Ghost Ship appeared, tossed on the waves before disappearing out of sight.

Victoria Savory, Head of Marketing at Adnams explains, “We originally brewed Adnams Ghost Ship as a seasonal beer. It has gathered such a following that it has become our permanent beers available throughout the year in bottle and on draught in pubs. Tonight has been about celebrating all things Ghost Ship and to say thank-you to its loyal fans.

“We have worked closely with Spring design agency here in Southwold to create the ‘ghostly’ short film. We opted for the film projection as we wanted an innovative and memorable format that we hope people will share through social media after the event. The Adnams Ghost Ship campaign will continue in pubs, online and in our Cellar & Kitchen stores with competitions to win Adnams Ghost Ship t-shirts and hoodies.”

Erika Clegg, Founder of Spring said, “This has been an opportunity to do something really creative, with a strong strategy underpinning it, for Adnams, a brand we love. Ghost Ship is a strong product that deserves a good campaign which we’re proud to have delivered”.

The Adnams Ghost Ship film will be projected in Norwich on Friday evening at various sites including The Mulberry on Unthank Road, the Railway Station, Bank Plain and Tombland. The film clip will be available on www.youtube.com/user/AdnamsSouthwold.

Ghost Ship is a spookily good ale that takes its inspiration from Adnams’ 600-year-old haunted pub, The Bell. The beer originally appeared as a seasonal brew but proved so popular it was recently made part of our Permanent Range, available all year round on draught and in bottles.

Ghost Ship has good assertive pithy bitterness with a malty backbone and a lemon and lime aroma. Ghost Ship is brewed with a selection of malts – Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara. We use Citra, and a blend of other American hop varieties, to create some great citrus flavours.
