Thomas Wolsey pub taken over by award winning tenant

Red Oak Taverns has purchased the freehold of the Thomas Wolsey pub in Ipswich and new pub operator, Damon Jeffery is taking over as the tenant.  Damon who previously ran the award-winning Freston Boot and large pubs in London wants to make the Thomas Wolsey pub a real community pub with craft lagers, real ales and a new gin menu.

The town centre pub which is named after the town’s famous 16th century statesman and Catholic bishop Thomas Wolsey, dates back to the 17th century.  It is located in St Peter’s Street which accommodates a vibrant number of hospitality venues and connects the town centre to the waterfront area of Ipswich. Speaking about his new venture, Damon said, “I’m really looking forward to taking on the pub with Red Oak Taverns. We are going to be introducing some local real ales alongside a new drinks menu, live music nights and a quality food menu in the summer”.

Red Oak Taverns has over 200 pubs and has its main office location in Ipswich.  The Thomas Wolsey pub is their latest pub purchase as they continue to grow their pub estate.  Graeme Bunn, property and acquisitions director for Red Oak Taverns said, “As part of our acquisition programme we are on the look out for well located community pubs and The Thomas Wolsey pub is a great addition to our pub estate.  It’s brilliant we have an experienced tenant as in Damon to take it over and develop this town centre pub”.
