Tickets launched for Women in Beer Festival 2024

Tickets have been launched for the third edition of the Women in Beer Festival which will take place in venues across Edinburgh Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 October. Organised by Women in Beer, the community for women who enjoy good beer, the festival showcases and celebrates women working and leading the brewing industry.

This Festival begins at Cold Town House in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket on Wednesday 23 October, with a welcome evening, networking event, and musical performance. Women in Beer Founder Amélie Tassin will open proceedings, with brewers from Cold Town and Worthing’s ’s Hand Brew Co. on hand for a Meet the Brewer takeover of the taps.

Women in Beer’s Crisp Malt – Industry Seminar returns on Friday 25 October with a distinguished line-up of experts and speakers leading a series of tastings and talks.

The day will start with Lallemand’s Technical Sales Representative, Alix Blease leading a session of Sensory Training. Taste and assess some of the most common faults found in beer and go through what causes them and how to prevent them happening. Level up your sensory evaluation skills and the language used to describe it.

In the afternoon, speakers from across the world of beer will lead a series of discussions, covering a range of topics central to the industry. Attendees will be able to take a deep dive into the world of beer judging, learn tactics for quality and consistency, as well as hear about community and mental health in brewing.

Amélie Tassin, founder of Women in Beer said: “Our Industry Seminar was a great success last festival, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring it back this year. Women in Beer exists as a safe space to forge connections and break boundaries in brewing, and sharing experience and knowledge is an integral part of that. The speakers we have lined-up this year are leaders in the industry with global experience, and I’m excited for everyone to hear what they have to say and to learn from them.”

Already confirmed as part of the line-up are Brewers Association American Craft Beer Ambassador for Europe Lotte Peplow, former British Beer Writer of the Year and previous Chair of the British Guild of Beer Writers Emma Inch, and commissioning brewer at SSV Limited Edina Balint, and more.

Colin Johnston, Sales & Marketing Director at Crisp Malt, who have partnered with Women in Beer for the Seminar said: “We at Crisp Malt are massively proud to be supporting this Seminar highlighting women in the brewing industry. We supply a fantastic sector, but it is still a very male dominated place. As an industry, we’ve come a long way in showing that there should be no barriers to those that consume beer and access beer related spaces, so the same should be true for the people that make it.”

James Bleakley, Marketing & Business Development Director UK & Europe at KegStar, who are supporting the Women in Beer Mentees to attend the Festival, said: “Kegstar are proud supporters of Women in Beer and the work they’re doing to create safe spaces for women to explore the world of craft beer. We’re incredibly happy to be a part of this evolution.”

The seminar will be held at The Port of Leith Distillery, Scotland’s first vertical distillery located in Edinburgh’s historic whisky district by The Shore.

The Women in Beer Big Meet Up will return on Saturday 26 October at The Stockbridge Tap where the festival will launch its four special collaboration beers. Beers poured will include a Coconut Porter from Cold Town, a Mixed Fermentation Sour from Holy Goat Brewing, a non-alcoholic Pacific Pale from Jump Ship, and DIPA from Round Corner Brewing.

Elsewhere, the festival has arranged Meet the Brewer events at bars around Edinburgh. Women brewers from Bluestone Brewery (Pembrokeshire), Round Corner (Melton Mowbray) Closet Brewing (Edinburgh), Ideal Day Brewery (Cornwall), Kerroo Brewing Company (Isle of Man), and Newbarns Brewery (Edinburgh).

Events at the Women in Beer Festival are open to all genders and for anyone who is interested in beer and for advocating for women and non-binary people within the beer industry.
