Timothy Taylor’s famous malty and oaty ale, Havercake, is back in both cask and 500ml bottles for 2023. 10p from every pint of cask ale sold will be donated to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity – the Army’s national charity – who support soldiers, past and present, and their families for life.
Originally brewed to honour the soldiers of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, affectionately nicknamed ‘Havercake Lads’. The name is derived from the oatmeal bread cake that was the staple food of the Yorkshire Pennine towns and villages where most of the soldiers lived.
Havercake has been created using a mixture of amber malt and two types of oat malt. This delivers a full-bodied, moreish ale with a creamy head and slight sweetness. Fuggles and Goldings are in the hop mix, which adds to the overall taste.
500ml bottles of Havercake will be exclusive to Timothy Taylor’s webshop and will be available soon.
It will be available in cask in pubs throughout Timothy Taylor’s own estate and wider from around Friday 3 November – including Taylor’s on the Green in Keighley and the Woolly Sheep Inn in Skipton.
A list of pubs that have bought Havercake is included on Timothy Taylor’s website here. This does not include pubs who have bought through a wholesaler, so if you’re unsure if your local sells it, it would be worth contacting them before you visit.
Ends.
