Monday 24th January

12:30 – 17:30

Escape to Freight Island, Manchester

Now in its 13th year, the Top 50 Gastropubs list returns on Monday 24th January with a live event in Manchester. With a VIP guestlist and a delicious menu curated by Steven Smith of Freemasons at Wiswell, the event will celebrate the very best gastropubs in the UK and reveal the Top 50 for 2022.

Top 50 Gastropubs, Publisher, Chris Lowe said: “After a tough two years for the hospitality industry, we are thrilled to see such a strong list of contenders this year, including a new number one and several new entrants! The Top 50 Gastropubs provides a platform for food-lovers to explore the very best offerings across the UK. We are delighted to host this year’s event in Manchester for the first time, highlighting the range of talent across the UK.”

The Top 50 Gastropubs list ranks the UK’s best gastropubs according to votes from more than 400 gastropub owners, food critics and other industry experts. With The Sportsman in Kent topping the Gastropubs list in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2021, the much-anticipated 2022 event will announce this year’s number one.

Tom Kerridge of The Hand & Flowers said: “A great gastropub is somewhere that feels like home from home. A place to relax and unwind and enjoy yourself with friends and family, people should leave a gastropub feeling like they’ve just had a big hug. I’m so pleased to be included in this year’s Top 50 Gastropubs, I’m proud that my team are recognised for all the hard work they do”.

Adam Handling of The Loch and The Tyne said: “I’m so happy and proud that our little pub with guest bedrooms has made it in to the Top 50. This is our first time opening a pub and it’s been great fun to adopt our restaurant style into a super informal setting. Co-chef proprietors, Steven and Jonny, have worked for me for 13 years and have always wanted a pub, so to give them an opportunity to run one and for it to go straight into the Top 50 is bloody fantastic. Well done guys! I’m so very proud of you.”

Stosie Madi of Parkers Arms said: “Making the prestigious Top 50 list is one of the best morale boosters for the team. Breaking into the list as an indie female-owned business is very rewarding and a wonderful achievement.”

Paul Ainsworth of The Mariners said: “When Emma and I refurbished The Mariners in Rock, our goal was to create a special place for locals and visitors alike to meet and enjoy great pub food, while soaking up the beautiful view and making happy memories.  The Mariners team is passionate about delivering great food and service.  To have our pub included in such a prestigious award for the third year running, particularly against such incredible competition, is truly humbling.  To be ranked within the Top 50 Gastropubs in the UK is absolutely brilliant.”

Winners will be announced at 17:30 on Monday 24th January 2022.
