Independent Yorkshire brewery, T&R Theakston is making pub quality pints of its iconic Old Peculier available at home through a new collaboration with PerfectDraft.
The brewery’s much-loved Old Peculier, a 5.6% dark ruby red ale with tasting notes of black cherry and banana, has been made available for the first time in 6L mini kegs compatible with PerfectDraft’s at home draught-style machines.
Each 6L keg provides 10 pints and retails at £38.90 with discounts available via the PerfectDraft’s Earn and Return scheme which offers 5% back for every £1 spent, and extra Beer Tokens awarded for the return of empty kegs.
Believed to have been first brewed in the early 19th century, Theakston Old Peculier is the flagship brand of the family-run company which has been brewing in Masham for almost 200 years. Old Peculier takes its name from
Masham’s historic Court of the Peculier, and for many years was affectionately referred to as Yorkshire’s “Lunatic’s Broth”, on account of its high ABV.
Commenting on the launch of Old Peculier for PerfectDraft, Managing Director of Theakston’s Brewery, Richard Bradbury said: “Whilst we remain committed to championing the Great British Pub and its role within the community, we continue to see growing numbers of drinkers who want to also be able to enjoy our beers at home. It’s important for us to provide our loyal customers with a great pint wherever and however they choose to drink Theakston beers and PerfectDraft enables us to extend our off trade range and offer the perfect pour at home. The reception so far has been brilliant, achieving a sell-out launch with 2,000 kegs sold in under 24 hours.”
Chairman of T&R Theakston, Simon Theakston added: “With such a long legacy behind it, Old Peculier is a truly iconic beer and we are very proud of the strong following it has garnered, not just in the UK, but across the world.
We’re excited to be working with PerfectDraft on Old Peculier in the first instance and hope to extend this collaboration across more of our beers in the near future.”
