UK’s first craft beer bar celebrates fifteen years of outstanding beers

The 1stJuly 2012 will see the pioneering Leeds-based North Bar celebrate its fifteenth birthday in style, following an ambitious two-week festival of uniquely brewed beers, called Fifteen beers for Fifteen years.
The festival begins on Saturday 16th June 2012 and will see North Bar release a uniquely brewed beer every day for the fortnight leading up to the official birthday party, which takes place on Sunday 1st July 2012. Each beer has been specially brewed in honour of North Bar’s anniversary and will make its UK draught debut at the festival.

The special edition beers will include offerings from US giants Flying Dog, Norwegian masters Nogne Ø and German beer legends Uerige, whilst UK front-runners BrewDog, Magic Rock, Roosters and Thornbridge will all showcase specially-brewed, limited edition beers created alongside the award-winning team behind North Bar.

Opened in 1997, North Bar has carved its name as a leading establishment within the now booming UK beer scene. Most notably, it is renowned for introducing a number of global beers to the UK market, including leaders of international craft brewing Erdinger, Sierra Nevada and Brooklyn Lager.

Further still, North Bar acts as a flagship bar for rarer delights such as Dogfish Head, Duchesse de Bourgogne and Tipopils, and was the first of its kind in the Leeds area. The leading bar has seen visits from a number of high profile names over the years, not least from local hero, Sir Jimmy Saville.

Fifteen Beers for Fifteen Years begins on Saturday 16th June 2012, kicking off with a specially brewed version of the classic Dutch pilsener Lindeboom.

The official birthday party will take place on Sunday 1st July 2012, 2pm. North Bar will be serving all fifteen specially brewed beers, along with an outdoor barbeque and music provided by top Leeds DJs, selecting their top fifteen tunes for the birthday.

The events will take place at 24 New Briggate, Leeds LS1 6NU | 0113 2424540

Christian Townsley, Director of North Bar Ltd, says: “Since opening in 1997 we’ve enjoyed 15 fantastic years serving a plethora of beers to an array of colourful characters.  It’s been brilliant fun and we’re delighted to have made such a mark on the culture of Leeds, we’re one of only a handful of independent businesses to still be here and that’s down to the high standards we’ve set and maintained, the excellent breweries, importers and suppliers we work with and the wonderful customers and staff who grace our venues.”

Ian Clay from James Clay says: Over the past 15 years North Bar’s pioneering spirit has placed them at the forefront of the UK beer scene. They are liberators in an authoritarian beer world – saving taste buds one sip at a time!

Andreas Falt, American Craft Beer Ambassador for the Brewers Association says: North Bar has been the leading light of the national craft beer scene for the last 15 years, breaking some amazing global brands in the UK market by cultivating a captive audience for artisan beer. It’s thanks to the likes of North Bar that we now have a thriving beer scene in the UK which showcases beer from all over the world!
