A Hoppy Place, Windsor’s first and only micropub has won the Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead branch of the Campaign for Real Ale’s Pub Of The Year Award for the second consecutive year.
A Hoppy place, named craft beer retailer of the year by the society of independent brewers’ association (SIBA) for 2021 and finalists in SIBA’s 2022 online category took first place in the Pub Of The Year category of CAMRA’s public vote, with Silver going to The White Horse in Hederley and Bronze to St Leonard’s Road Neighbours the Burlison Inns owned Windsor Trooper.
Based out of their Windsor shop which was established in August 2019, A Hoppy Place sells approximately 200 rotating beers in bottle and can, alongside ciders, wines, spirits and softs for take-out or drink in. But as their co-owner Dave says, A Hoppy Place is about more than that: “We’re all about community. We love our hoppy regulars. We have become a bit of a hub, and most of our closest friends are friends we’ve met in beer”.
Dave adds: “We feel this community spirit is what led us to our second gold with our local branch. We’ve lived in the area for 10 years, and have attended every one of the local CAMRA run Maidenhead Beer and Cider Festivals. We know a lot of the local members, and even though we’re considered very modern and crafty according to some CAMRA members, we always want to repeat our mantra: All beer brewed for love is good beer!”.
Dave and co-owner Naomi, a husband-and-wife team who have lived in Maidenhead for 10 years, are also working on bringing their business to their hometown – with work on their second outlet in the Countryside Homes development Trinity Place by Maidenhead Football club, well underway. This outlet is due to open late May.
Asked what they’ll do with the second consecutive award, Dave also says “Frame and hang it! But also, we think we’ll get a big banner this time and stick it in our Windsor shop window! We’re always trying to find ways to advertise to people walking past our little micropub that we don’t only sell beer to take home or order online, we have 11 kegs, 2 casks, and as CAMRA have confirmed again – the best kept beer in the area. So come in, pull up a barstool and grab yourselves a pint.”.
Naomi, Dave and the rest of the Hoppy Place Team give their sincerest thanks to each and every CAMRA member for their votes, as well as offering huge congratulations to The White Horse and to their good friends at the Windsor Trooper for their second and third place awards.
