Where’s the old A-Z index?

The old A-Z index can be accessed by navigating to the “Guild Members” page and clicking on the “View member index” button just below the search bar.

You can then make use of the left-hand alphabet-bar to jump to surnames beginning with a certain letter.

To view a member’s profile, click either their name or their photo. This is generally the way you’ll access a member’s profile elsewhere on the website too.

What’s the difference between “Your recently viewed” and “Recently viewed”?

“Your recently viewed” shows you the last four profiles that you have looked at, whereas “Recently viewed” shows you the latest four profiles that anybody has viewed on the website.

What does the “Jump to” bar do on the search results page?

The jump to bar allows you to view only those members whose surname begins with your chosen letter – in a similar way to how the new A-Z index page works.

You can only choose one letter at a time and clicking the same letter twice will cancel your selection. Alternatively, you can click the “view-all” link to cancel any selection you have made previously.

How do I search?

Navigate to the Guild Member Search page and enter your query in the search box at the top of the page. To execute your search either hit the “enter” key on your keyboard or click/tap on the black search button.

How do I do a new search if my first one wasn’t right?

Next to the “alphabet bar” there’s a search box with the phrase “Start a new search…”. Enter your new search word or phrase into this box and click the black button to start a new search.

How do the filters work?

The filters work by refining the number of members you see to show you those who match your chosen criteria. For instance, if you have a large search results volume, the filters will help you narrow down the results to find the exact person you’re looking for.

Sometimes, you may find that filters go too far and there are no results left to view, which will show you an error message. In this instance, you are left with one of two things to do:

remove all the filters by manually unchecking them or clicking on the orange “Reset filters” link; or
try clicking the “Matching any selected” button, which will instead look for users who match any of your chosen criteria rather than users who match them all.

How accurate are the results?

Very. We use contextual text relevance to determine the outcome of our searches – we’re not just looking for word or phrase match but interrogating member information on a much deeper level. We’re accounting for synonyms of words, typos and pitting each relevant result against another to determine which is the best possible match for your search.

How often does the search database update?

The search database updates in real-time when a member updates their profile. Occasionally, there may be a short delay but the general rule of thumb is once a member has updated their information, it becomes searchable straight away!
