Big Swally returns to Edinburgh with 150+ beers – and day tickets have already sold out

BEER lovers have one last chance to join Edinburgh’s biggest craft beer festival of the year, with The Big Swally returning to the capital this October and the daytime session already completely sold out.

Taking place at Edinburgh Corn Exchange on Saturday October 24, the third annual festival will bring together more than 20 UK and international breweries pouring more than 150 different beers, alongside food vendors, live music and plenty of opportunities to discover something new.

With 900 tickets for the daytime session already snapped up, the remaining evening tickets are now the last chance to get involved.

And there’s a pretty good reason to make it a night of it. Evening ticket holders will receive a free welcome drink from Edinburgh brewery Vault City Brewing, with a new variation of Gloop expected to be on the pour.

The ultra-thick, experimental cream stout range can be as high as 10% and made with experimental ingredients like real chocolate fudge brownie batter, creating a rich, dessert-like beer designed purely for indulgence. Gloop was recently named the highest-rated beer at this year’s London Craft Beer Festival, giving Big Swally attendees the chance to try one of Vault City’s most talked-about beers as part of their ticket.

The beer will be joined by more than 150 others from a line-up of breweries from across the UK and beyond, giving festival-goers the chance to work their way through everything from experimental brews and big stouts to crisp lagers and hop-forward beers.

Keeping things distinctly Scottish, the festival will also feature Scotland’s only Proclaimers tribute band, performing across both sessions.

The Big Swally is presented by The Caledonian Craft Beer Merchant and Edinburgh-based Vault City Brewing, bringing together independent breweries, beer fans and food traders for one of the city’s biggest celebrations of craft beer.

Caledonian Craft Beer Merchant owner and Big Swally beer festival founder Colin Gardiner said: “The Big Swally is always one of the highlights of our year, and after having built a strong community initially in Dunfermline and now in Edinburgh, we wanted the third one to be a proper celebration of great beer and a good night out.

“With the day session already sold out, the evening is the last chance to get involved, and there’s plenty to tempt people along. Gloop is one of Vault City’s most indulgent beers and being able to welcome everyone with a pour is a pretty special way to start the night. Add Scotland’s only Proclaimers tribute band and more than 150 beers from breweries across the UK and beyond, and we think it’s going to be some night.”

The Big Swally Edinburgh takes place on Saturday October 24 at Edinburgh Corn Exchange, with the evening session running from 5.30pm to 10pm.

Evening tickets are £17.50 and include entry to the festival and a free welcome drink from Vault City.
