Perfectly timed for summer, Sandford Orchards has relaunched its English sparkling cider, Katja, in a convenient new 500ml bottle. A crisp, modern, single-varietal cider, Katja offers a sophisticated and easy-drinking alternative to English sparkling wine and is available from sandfordorchards.co.uk, in a case of 12 x 500ml bottles (6.8% ABV), £42.60.
On the palate, Katja reveals delicate, orchard-fresh notes of strawberry and pear, leading to subtle, complex layers of melon and honeysuckle. Wonderfully easy-drinking and bright, it finishes with a clean, bright citrus note.
Crafted from the early-season Katy dessert apple, Katja is pressed and fermented at Sandford Orchards’ Devon cider works, home to Britain’s oldest working cider mill. The apple's fresh and fragrant characteristics are enhanced by cold fermenting the juice with a white wine yeast. This careful process produces an elegant, light and fruit-forward cider that translates the eating qualities of the Katy apple into a refined, sparkling cider.
Barny Butterfield, founder of Sandford Orchards, comments: “We like to think of Katja as a delicious, fruit-forward, home-grown alternative to sparkling wine. At 6.8% ABV, it offers a lighter way to enjoy a refreshing sparkling drink, with all the character and flavour you would expect from a premium cider. Now available in a convenient 500ml bottle, Katja is an accessible choice for relaxed summer drinking.”
Founded in 2002, Sandford Orchards takes a fresh, natural and low impact approach to producing cider. Combining tradition and innovation, they produce an award-winning range of core session, traditional, fine and fruit ciders.
