Davenports Launch First ‘British & Best’ Pub

Davenports Brewery, which was established in Birmingham in 1829, has drawn inspiration from everything that is ‘familiar’, ‘comfortable’ and ‘positively memorable’ about Great British Pubs over the decades to shape their new portfolio, aptly named ‘British & Best’. The first venue under this bold new brand is The Queens Head on Steelhouse Lane, which officially opens its doors to the public on Friday 20th March. following an extensive renovation.

So, what can customers expect? Welcoming, classic, and timeless, the British & Best colour palette boasts British Racing Green - a heritage colour, the traditional warmth and glow of copper across the imposing bar, as well as cosy, private leather booths, and moody black panelled walls to create comfortable, intimate spaces to savour great hospitality in a relaxed, yet refined environment. Smoky mirrors reflect conversations and laughter, whilst carefully curated lighting adds even more atmosphere to corners.

British & Best serves up pub heritage in a format that is perfect for today’s audience.

‘British’ and ‘Best,’ runs through the foodie menu too which plays into what people want, and expect when frequenting a great pub – that is the classics…done well! ‘Comfort,’ is an integral and underpinning quality of the brand, and it is naturally layered through the dishes - from the Jug of Liquor with your London-style pie, to bread & butter with fish & chips, there is even a jug of gravy and Guinness Batter Bits with your delicious, yet humble Chip Butty!

The brands thoughtfully curated drink offering includes the popular, and the familiar. From Davenports’ award-winning brews which are paired with dishes on the menu, to great ales from prestigious brand partners. Carefully chosen wines sit alongside a well-balanced selection of premium spirits that are served with great mixers or handcrafted into a lineup of popular, bespoke beer-infused, and seasonal cocktails.

The extensive refurbishment has created new outdoor, and indoor areas – with the pub now boasting three outdoor spaces… rare in a city location. An outdoor Guinness Terrace to the rear of the pub leans into Davenports association with Guinness, not just serving the liquid from the bar, but Davenports used to bottle Guinness under license in 1905, and the original label artwork is proudly displayed in various areas. There is also the upstairs courtyard and for those wanting to keep an eye on Colmore life, the tabled area to the front of the pub.

The former conservatory area is now a room that is perfect for watching sport on the screens, and in addition to sport, The Queens Head also serves up free live entertainment on Saturday night! Upstairs the newly refurbished function room can host parties and business events with dropdown screens and projector as well as a private bar.

Whether watching sport with friends whilst tapping into the happy hours, enjoying a deep-filled and delicious sandwich at lunch, a hearty classic, tapping into the special prices of Friday Night Social, or enjoying the free live music on a Saturday night, the team will ensure you make the most of your visit.

Passion, knowledge, and attentive service as well as cracking uniforms ensure staff are ready to serve and have plenty of conversation to give!

Katie McPhilimey, Brand & Marketing Director for Davenports said; “Davenports, with all its rich and pioneering heritage is truly best placed to serve up a British & Best brand, drawing on what people really want when visiting a great pub. The décor is very special with a beautiful imposing copper bar, it is moody yet welcoming, a space for everyone whether that be a private booth or great social space to mingle with friends indoors, or outdoors! Our centuries-old association with Guinness is also honoured through our Guinness branded burger – which is worthy of its own Instagram page! In today’s challenging world, the comfort, consistency, familiarity, and quality of a British & Best pub is just what customers need.”
