Greene King has won the PubAid Corporate Community Hero award at the prestigious All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group's annual awards dinner in London on Wednesday 17 June.
A number of awards were handed out to brewers, publicans and politicians for their work in support of the industry over the past year, including naming its Corporate Community Hero.
The award recognises companies whose pubs and breweries have gone above and beyond to support the four pillars of charity, community, sustainability and grassroots sport over the past year and was judged by PubAid.
Judges praised Greene King for the scale of its social impact, which included reaching £25m of funds raised for Macmillan Cancer Support since 2012 and continuing the rollout of its Releasing Potential programme after recruiting more than 360 prison leavers into its pubs and working in partnership with the charity Only A Pavement Away. It also recognised other initiatives including Greene King's Proud to Pitch In initiative raising £1m in funds for grassroots sports clubs and its Tub2Pub recycling scheme, which saw it collect 330,000 plastic confectionary tubs in January and February 2026 that would otherwise have gone to landfill.
Chief executive Nick Mackenzie collected the award from Beer Group chair Tonia Antoniazzi MP, and celebrated the award win with Dr Peter Princely, MP for Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.
Nick said: “I’m extremely proud that we’ve been recognised in this way by the Beer Group. Our pubs and teams all work really hard to be at the centre of their communities.
“A lot of work goes into establishing these programmes and building strong partnerships with charity and community groups, but it’s our teams in our pubs and breweries who absolutely bring them to life.
“To have the scale of our social impact acknowledged is very humbling and this award is testimony to the hard work of so many people out there and the enduring social value that pubs bring to communities.”
Commenting on the achievement, PubAid Co-Founder, Des O’Flanagan, said: “The judges were particularly impressed by the way Greene King has embedded community impact throughout its business. Its entry demonstrated that social value is not delivered through a single initiative, but through a long-term commitment to supporting people, places and communities across the UK. The breadth of activity, combined with clear evidence of sustained impact, made Greene King a standout winner.”
