We are delighted to announce that our historic Westminster pub The White Horse and Bower has reopened following a £950,000 transformation.
First opened in 1816, the pub has long been a favourite with locals and visitors alike. After a three-month renovation, it is once again welcoming guests, with care taken to preserve its rich heritage while introducing a stylish new look.
At the heart of the redesign is a bespoke reclaimed oak bar, repositioned to create a brighter, more open atmosphere at the front of the pub. New banquette seating in aged leather and plush velvet adds comfort and character, while intimate rear booths, separated by handmade stained-glass screens, offer a more private setting. A reclaimed full-height timber fireplace, antique light fittings, and traditional hand-painted Lincrusta wall finish enriches the space with a sense of history, complemented by artwork reflecting its Westminster setting.
The pub’s original tiled façade has also been restored, enhanced by a new hand-painted swing sign featuring its iconic white horse. Bi-folding timber windows, bench seating, and planters help to create a more inviting indoor-outdoor feel. In line with Shepherd Neame’s commitment to sustainability, the refurbishment includes energy-efficient fridges, smart cellar technology, LED lighting, and an all-electric kitchen.
The expanded kitchen is serving a delicious new menu focused on locally sourced seasonal produce and relaxed, shareable dishes, including a new weekend brunch offer. The drinks list has also been completely reimagined, with Shepherd Neame’s award-winning Kentish ales and lagers joined by a premium selection of wines, including several from Kent’s flourishing vineyards.
To celebrate its new look and offer, we are holding an official launch event at the pub on Wednesday, October 15.
It is taking place from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, with canapés and drinks provided for guests, and a presentation to be made by our Chief Executive Jonathan Neame.
We would be delighted if you and a guest could join us for this special celebration.
Please let us know if you can attend by emailing comms@shepherdneame.co.uk by Monday, October 6.
