Horneywink: A New Name in Fine Cider

Horneywink Cider has launched its first vintage, the culmination of four years of hard work, passion and plenty of fun. Proudly rooted in Cornwall, Horneywink is an exceptionally made Fine Cider – intended to be sipped, savoured and shared with friends and family. Founded by husband and wife team, Chris and Sara with old school mate Paul, situated on Cornwall’s South Coast. Horneywink Cider brings together the desire to create a drink that is naturally high quality, shaped by Cornwall’s heritage, myth and mischief.
Guided by the principle of “Premium by Nature, Playful by Choice”, this summer’s launch of the Horneywink 2025 Green Label showcases the best of what cider can be. Presented in a 375ml champagne bottle, it is clear that this is not a mainstream offering. Founder Sara Reid says, “This fine cider is a fabulous embodiment of consumers’ desire to explore more premium offerings* and a willingness to be more discerning, recognising that a little more money buys a lot more flavour and quality. Horneywink Cider contains all the elegance and depth of flavour of a fine wine, but is an unashamedly, proudly Cornish Cider, containing half the alcohol of wine and double the fun”.
“Horneywink” is an old Cornish dialect name for the Lapwing - a cheeky, characterful bird that lends Horneywink cider its playful streak. That same playful spirit runs through the brand and sits at the heart of our business philosophy: a spark of modern mischief layered over established heritage. Horneywink Fine Cider draws inspiration from the bird’s association with the surrounding woods and from Cornwall’s rich storytelling traditions—a world of ancient forests, piskies, mysterious creatures, maritime tales and history, all passed down through the generations.
At the heart of every great cider is the selection of great apples. The Home Orchard at Horneywink contains over 40 different varieties of apple, some of which are classic South West, tannic-rich cider apples, but others being traditional Cornish apple varieties with wonderfully evocative names such as Cornish Honeypinnick, Colloget Pippin and Tommy Knights. The 2025 Label contains fruit from the Home Orchard combined with selected varieties from growers in the South West of England, such as Brown’s, Somerset Redstreak, Stoke Red and Yarlington Mill.
The result is a 6.6% abv cider made with 100% apple juice, no concentrate and no dilution – a pure expression of terroir, quality fruit and cider maker expertise. The liquid is aromatic, fruity, off-dry, complex, yet not challenging; and of which co-founder Sara Reid is incredibly proud of. “We are so thrilled to have finally launched our Horneywink 2025 Green Label Cider. We believe that our Cornish Fine Cider brings flavour and fun to any social setting, whether sipping in the sunshine or enjoying over dinner with friends. We all need a little more Horneywink in our lives!”
