King of the Castle: Greene King and St Austell Brewery collaboration beer celebrates the best of British ingredients

Greene King and St Austell Brewery, two of the UK’s leading cask brewers, have brought their brewing powers together to collaborate on a new beer this autumn – King of the Castle (ABV 4.3%).

A hop forward pale ale, King of the Castle is brewed with all British-grown ingredients – Harlequin and Solero hops, plus a blend of the finest East Anglian and Cornish malts, resulting in a perfectly balanced, easy-drinking pale ale.

Greene King has over 200 years of brewing history while St Austell Brewery celebrates its 175th anniversary this year – cementing both brewers as champions of cask ale and the pubs it’s served in. King of the Castle has been released as part of Greene King’s 2026 Fresh Cask Releases calendar, in time for Cask Ale Week (17-27 September).

Jack Palmer, Head Brewer at Greene King Brewery, said: “King of the Castle is the product of two brewers, passionate about cask ale, working together to brew a delicious pale ale that we know will sell well in our pubs and beyond. The combination of hops provides a fruity and punchy flavour, perfectly complimented by the British malts. We’ve not brewed with Cornish Gold malt before – so we were delighted to have it here in Bury St Edmunds for the first time. It was great working with Georgina Young and the wider St Austell Brewery team to brew King of the Castle, a celebration of British ingredients.”

Georgina Young, Brewing Director at St Austell Brewery, added: "We’re incredibly proud of our 175-year brewing heritage and our long-standing commitment to championing cask ale. Collaborating with Greene King, another brewer that shares our passion for quality cask beer and the pubs that serve it, has been a real pleasure. King of the Castle brings together the very best of both breweries using Cornish Gold, malt produced exclusively for St Austell Brewery, resulting in a refreshing, flavour-packed pale ale that celebrates not only great brewing, but the importance of working together to showcase everything that makes British beer so special."

King of the Castle will be available in a number of selected Greene King pubs and St Austell Brewery pubs, and to on trade customers in September and October.

King of the Castle will be available in firkins and pins (36‑pint units), along with all other seasonal cask beers, providing pubs with greater flexibility on throughput.
