Loch Lomond brewery and Bellfield Brewery have taken home coveted 'Overall Champion' spots at Indie Beer Scotland 2026, being named winners of the seperate cask and keg beer competitions in the Indie Beer Awards Scotland. Cairngorm also took home the Overall Champion in bottle & can.
In the cask beer awards it was Loch Lomond's bright and hoppy 'Brave Hop' IPA which was named best of the best in the Overall Champions judging after winning it's style category, Fiona MacEachern Managing Director of Loch Lomond wa son hand to collect the award on behalf of her team;
"The guy's at the brewery work really really hard and they really deserve it, they work so hard every day and so to take this award home and be able to say that they've achieved everything we could ever ask of them and more is just brilliant."
The Indie Beer Scotland Awards are blind-tasted by expert beer judges, beer sommeliers, and master brewers from elsewhere in the UK, with the winners of each beer-style category going through to a final judging table where the overall Champion Gold, Silver and Bronze are selected. The awards take place ahead of Indie Beer Scotland – the country's biggest beer festival of Scottish beers, which took place over the weekend at The Pitt in Edinburgh.
In the keg beer awards it was Bellfield's Lager Libre, a refreshing and zesty Mexican-style lager which proved a hit with the expert judging panel. Head Brewer Keith Robertson had this to say on their big win;
"Delighted to win the Overall Scottish Champion Award for 2026 for our Lager Libre, whihc is a 4.5% mexican-style lager, filled with lime, agave and maize, brewed gluten free and vegan friendly - so great to win with such a fun beer style, up against umbelievable beers. Just great to win it and looking forward to pouring the beer at the UK finals at BeerX next year."
All category winners will now go forwards to the UK Finals of the Indie Beer Awards, which are organised by the Society of Independent Brewers and Associates and will take place in Liverpool in March next year.
"Scotland have a superb track record at the UK finals and I want to wish all of this year's winners the best of luck in March next year, the quality of beers across the board was absolutely superb. I also want to say a huge thankyou to team from The Pitt in Edinburgh for their help in making the awards and beer festival such a success and supporting the return of Indie Beer Scotland to Edinburgh." Neil Walker, SIBA Head of Comms and presenter of this year's award in Glasgow.
