The Metropolitan Pub Company is partnering with More Curricular CIC to host a series of events celebrating the 60th anniversary of Notting Hill Carnival, highlighting the role pubs can play in bringing people together around shared cultural experiences and local heritage.
Taking place across The Ladbroke Arms, The Mitre and The Prince Bonaparte throughout August, the programme forms part of Carnival 60, a six-month heritage initiative raising awareness of the origins, history and lasting cultural impact of Notting Hill Carnival.
Developed in partnership with Yvette Reinfor, Founder and Director of More Curricular CIC, the events combine discussion, storytelling, music, food and drink experiences to create new ways for people to engage with one of London's most significant cultural celebrations.
As hospitality businesses continue to explore meaningful ways to connect with their local communities, the programme demonstrates how pubs can provide spaces for cultural conversation, education and community engagement alongside their traditional food and drink offer.
The Prince Bonaparte, Westbourne Park – 4 August
Carnival is 60. What Next? will bring together Ansel Wong CBE and guest speakers for a panel discussion exploring the future of Carnival over the next 60 years and will also feature live poetry readings and calypso music.
The Mitre, Holland Park – 11 August
Guests will take part in a guided tasting of Bumbu, the Barbadian rum brand, discovering its history and Caribbean roots through a curated tasting experience.
The Ladbroke Arms, Notting Hill – 25 August
A 90-minute guided walking tour led by Yvette Reinfor will explore hidden local histories and celebrate the Caribbean community that played a key role in shaping Notting Hill Carnival. The walk ends at The Ladbroke Arms with a fish and chip taster and a half pint of the pub's House Ale.
Yvette Reinfor, Founder and Director of More Curricular CIC, said: "Carnival 60 is an opportunity to celebrate the people, places and stories that have shaped Notting Hill Carnival over six decades. By partnering with Metropolitan Pub Company, we're able to bring those stories to wider audiences in our community, where people can learn more about the heritage and cultural significance of Carnival."
Vincent Madden, Managing Director of Metropolitan Pub Company, said: "We believe great pubs are rooted in the communities they serve. These events are an opportunity to celebrate the history and cultural richness of West London while supporting an important community organisation. We're pleased to be working with More Curricular CIC to create experiences that bring people together through conversation, culture, food and drink."
The programme reflects Metropolitan Pub Company's approach to creating events that connect people with their local communities, while supporting organisations making a positive contribution to the areas in which its pubs operate. The partnership also reinforces the role pubs can play as accessible venues for cultural engagement and community storytelling.
All events are ticketed, with proceeds supporting More Curricular CIC's education services and community programmes.
