The Midsummer Beer Happening in Stonehaven is set to say cheers – and thank you – to local charities by supporting around 20 good causes making a difference to lives in the town.
The town’s world-famous Fireballs Ceremony, Stonehaven Men’s Shed and Stonehaven Sea Cadets will be the main beneficiaries from the three-day celebration of outstanding beer, food and music when it returns to its special marquee in the Baird Park this summer.
The Happening, running from Thursday, June 11, to Sunday, June 13, will also give a boost to charities such as Stonehaven Air Cadets, Friends of Kincardine Community Hospital, the local Guides and Scouts, and even the town’s hugely popular Land Train.
Robert Lindsay, the festival’s manager, said the whole team of volunteers behind the event are always proud of the Happening, a not-for-profit event, giving back to the community.
Since it started life as the Stonehaven Real Ale Festival in 2009, the event has raised £428,000 for local good causes.
Robert said: “The Happening is all about making our 6,000 visitors feel good over the weekend of the festival but also doing good for Stonehaven by leaving a lasting legacy that can make a difference in the lives of people who live here.
“The groups we will be supporting do so much good, whether it’s giving young people the best start in life, providing compassionate care for the vulnerable or helping put Stonehaven on the map as a ‘must-see’ place to visit.
“These charities exist only because of the hard work and passion of volunteers who do what they do for love of the place and caring for others. We are proud to do our bit to help them and to help Stonehaven.”
When the Happening bursts into life it will offer more than 120 carefully curated beers from the finest breweries across Scotland and Belgium, offering fine brews to please all palates.
In addition, the event’s al fresco food court will boast award-winning street food vendors offering excellent fayre ranging from fish and chips to spicy Indian food and everything in between.
Providing the soundscape to the event will the cream of north-east musicians offering everything from mellow jazz to raucous rock ‘n’ roll over the course of the three days.
And for the fitness fanatics, the Happening’s cycling sportive will return on the Saturday, with four fantastic courses to challenge riders before a well-earned pint or two.
Robert said: “The Happening has been months in the planning and now we are closing in on the final stages of crossing all the T’s and dotting all the I’s to make the 2026 festival an absolute belter – once again one of the best events in the north-east’s cultural calendar.
“All of this is only possible thanks to the unstinting support we get from the community. That includes the army of volunteers who roll up their sleeves and get stuck in, the sponsors who give so generously, and the thousands of people who come along to enjoy the party with us.
Robert extended particular thanks to this year’s sponsors who will be part of the event. They are: Deeside Timberframe; The Bay Fish and Chips; EnerQuip; GB Tarpaulins Ltd: Whittaker Engineering; NFU, and Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace.
And the full list of charities being supported by the Happening this year is: Stonehaven Sea Cadets; Stonehaven Fireballs; Stonehaven Men’s Shed; 1297 Stonehaven Squadron Air Cadets; Stonehaven Amateur Swimming Club; Friends of Kincardine Community Hospital; The Land Train; Mackie RFC – Youth; Stonehaven & District Lions Club; Rhythm Dance Nation; Stonehaven Folk Festival; Home Start; Stonehaven Youth Club; Stonehaven Youth FC; Dunnottar Pipes & Drums; Pillar; Stonehaven Scouts; Girl Guides Stonehaven; KAMCAB - Kincardine and Mearns Citizens Advice Bureau, and Cycling Without Age Stonehaven
Robert said: “It’s not long now until the Midsummer Beer Happening in Stonehaven bursts into life – we have the beers lined up, the food vendors ready to cook up a storm and the musicians tuning up to add to the brilliant atmosphere.
