A brewery in Sheffield have taken home Gold in the North East of England's most prestigious beer competition, the Indie Beer Awards North East, held at the Brew York Beer Hall in York.

Little Critters Brewery were named Overall Champions in the Indie Beer Awards (Keg) with their 'Buffalo Charge' American Brown Ale, just a few weeks after the same beer was crowned Champion Beer of Sheffield by real ale consumer group CAMRA.

The Indie Beer Awards North East include entries from across South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Humberside, North Yorkshire, Cleveland, Durham, Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

Anneli Baxter, Chair of the Indie Beer Awards, was on hand to present the awards and had this to say on this year's winner;

"Our Overall Champion category sees all of the category winners across various beer styles battle it out to be named the 'best of the best' and this year huge congratulations are due to Little Critters - their Buffalo Charge was the standout beer of the competition with judges, from what was a hugely impressive final round. Massive well done to the Little Critters team and to all of this year's medalists and category champions.

I'd also like to say a huge thankyou to the Brew York team for helping run such a fantastic awards judging and for giving beer drinkers in York the chance to taste all of this year's winners in their superb Beer Hall over coming days. Get down and try them while you can!"

All of the Category Champions will now go forwards to the National Finals of the Indie Beer Awards at BeerX in Liverpool in March. The Indie Beer Awards North East were held at the Brew York Beer Hall in York, who are running a free 'Indie Beer North East' beer festival today and over the weekend featuring all of the winning beers.

The Indie Beer Awards take place across the UK and are organised by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).
