Today’s employers expect journalists to confidently interpret data, spot stories in statistics and present evidence clearly. They rely on data for reporting on investigations, health and finance to name some areas but it can be challenging knowing where to find this data and how to present it reliably.
Â
Three useful sites for finding data: Office for National Statistics, Open benches, FBREF
Â
If working with data (or any other area)Â feels daunting or you feel skills are underdeveloped, most organisations address this in two ways:
For individuals: CPD masterclasses and e-learning materials to support requirements and address needs with an experiences trainer.
For teams: Bespoke group training sessions for your team can focus on real scenarios specific to your business and answer the questions that face you.
Â
This month's highlighted course
Our upcoming Data Journalism CPD masterclass, led by senior journalism course leader Adrian Seal, is designed to give you practical skills to find those great stories in data and strengthen your newsroom skillset to ensure you feel more confident in handling data.
